I Feel Like a Good Slowfall.

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on January 25, 2012 by theerivs

I’m going to be honest, I love SWTOR. I loved RIFT, I loved Warhammer.

There are times though I really miss my mage. We had alot of adventures together. He’s like an old friend that I use to pal around together.  As I think back to my mage, there are some things I just truly miss.

Some things I miss….

5. Blinking the hell out of there – As a mage sometimes you get a little overrunned by the mobs. Running away is a strategy to a mage, and nothing like running and blinking the hell out of a situation, toss in a good frost nova and I would laugh my arse off as I ran.

4. Invisibility -  I loved it when everyone else wiped, and I’d sit there and wait for them to come back, cause I hit Invisible at the right time when we wiped.

3. Blizzard – I love all the huge numbers that would be flying by when I would open up a can of whoop-ass.

2. Teleports – Man, making gold off them, tricking people with them, heck sometimes I would just teleport cause I was bored.

1. Slowfall – When life would get me down, or I was bored I would climb to the highest points in Azeroth, jump off and just slowfall down, and watch the world go. It was very Zen, and it put me in a better state of mind.

So those are the reasons I miss the mage….

…that and my mage would eat babies….mofoes!

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , , on September 28, 2011 by theerivs

Bronte had a post today about all the WoW hate going around in the blogosphere. I wonder why that is. I mean I played worse games before that didn’t get hated on like WoW does now. As I thought about it, Men really don’t like change all that much. There’s an old saying, “Men marry women hoping they don’t change, women marry men hoping they do”

WoW is our wife that is changing, at first she was shy, and demure. Only the most devout lover could get her lovely bounty from her. Now she gives up the goods to anyone.

The Age of the Casual.

I remember playing Dark Ages, WoW for hours upon hours a day, and so did most of my friends.  Now it seems like most of the people I know are just casual even my hardcore buddies from the past. Sure I can toss my lot in with some hardcore people again, but I just don’t have the time like I use to.  It seems like I’m not the only one, most people this day and age don’t seem to have the time we once did, and the gaming companies are catering to us more than ever. With Free to Play, where we can pay to skip all the hard stuff, and pay to get the good gear, this screams out to the adult gamer who has the capital, but not the time anymore.

Where does the Rabbit Hole End?

I don’t know. Will WoW right itself, and make a come back, will it die a slow death, while Blizzard works on its new MMO. Perhaps MMO’s in general are a dying genre, perhaps it will be more like lobbies, and then we jump into action like World of Tanks. If that is the case it will be a sad MMO world indeed.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel.

With games like RIFT, and the upcoming SWTOR, There is hope in this little heart of mine, I see the hype over SWTOR, and I just pray it lives up to that hype, but what I hear from beta it’s shaping up quite awesome. I would like to think Gevlon is right in his statement as well….

“The obvious, and even acknowledged drop of subscriber count will force them to fix WoW or they lose their cash cow very fast. WoW will be fixed. The guilds that weathered the storm, gathered enough players to survive, will be the biggest and most successful when the tides turn and the players return. I already see it: 10 new members joined us this weekend, because in the server we are have unique and “awesome” qualities: we still live, raid, rbg. In times of collapse, simple existence has serious marketing value.”

Having lived through several slumps in the gaming biz, I see thing ebb and flow all the time, and perhaps these are dark times for MMO’s, filled with nerdrage, and sour people but like I said I think there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

I just hope that light is a train coming…until then enjoy some Mila.

10 of my Favorite Wow Moments in WoW

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on September 21, 2011 by theerivs

Inspired by Bronte, and his post.  I was feeling nostalgic, and thought I would post some of my favorite WoW memories, cause once Diablo rolls around, and SWTOR I’ll probably hang up my WoW boots again.

10 – Wrathgate cut-scene video - I am a huge Forsaken guy, and I love how the lore is playing out there. They just hate everyone, and when it went to the video via the game it was like getting hit by a bat.

9-  Ethical Choice in Death Knight Starter Quest Line – When you had to kill your ”friend”, I was very impressed, and taken aback a bit.

8 –  Doctor Putricide saying “Good New Everybody” – It was just funny, and it made the guild laugh so much that it made a crappy ICC encounter more fun.

7. 16 hour Alterec Valley – I took part in a 16 hour AV, and by the end I thought I ran a marathon, I heard of even longer ones. When it was over I was like Holy Shit, finally but the fact we won it was a huge win…thee hugest.

6. 10 minute Alterac Valley – Back  in the day when AV lasted hours, me and my guild Phoenix Ascension queued together, and we were all in the same AV, that AV was won by us in 10 minutes, it was one of thee greatest AV’s I ever took part of.

5. Someone actually listened to me – In Zul’ Aman on the Eagle Boss, you had to run the gauntlet to the Eagle Boss, I told the guild I read somewhere that if you run straight to Eagle Boss, things despawned…well I really thought I read it…it didn’t work quite like that, and we got wiped bad…I don’t think anyone ever took strat advice from me ever…ever again.

4. Iron Giant - Back in the good ole Barren Chat days I got into an argument with a pure idiot over something stupid…I went on Vacation and I come back, and the dude whose name is Iron Giants was in my guild. I was like WTF. I was nice and shut up, then he really messed up several times he got booted, but my guild started calling me Iron Giant 2.o…I loved those bastards.

3. The Prophet in AQ - Just hearing him talk while clearing up to him was wierd, yet thrilling for me. For me it was just really cool.

2. Helping our guilds main tank get a Thunderfury – Just to be a part of helping him craft such a awesome weapon, and to see it completed it was pretty fricking cool.

1. a – Defeating Netharion for the First Time - It was just a great feeling, I can’t tell you how long it took to get the BWL dungeon down, and when we finally did it was pure greatness.

1.b. Defeating Ragnaros for the First Time – Not only was it Epic to see him pop up, but when you finally did beat him back then it was a major accomplishment. Doing MC, and BWL on a weekly basis made you a hardcore raider, and I was proud to be one. To me getting 10 people to go in a dungeon for 2 days is not hardcore, we did it 5 out of the 7 days (2 for MC, and 3 for BWL, and maybe more if we wanted to do something special) …that was hardcore my friends.  How did my fellow mages celebrate our Ragnaros killed, we ported everyone to Darnassus…boy were they pissed.

There’s a few more great moments, and these are just a few that stick out in my mind.  Say what you want about WoW it’s given me 7 years of enjoyment, and that’s pretty fricking good for a game.

PvP and WoW

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on September 15, 2011 by theerivs

People say WoW PvP sucks, which after having fun with Warhammer PvP, and some other games they may have a point.

Here’s my point, for all the complaints, and whining sometimes I still have fun.  Let me give you a few scenarios from my PvP adventures as of late.

1. It was an Arathi Basin, me and a Forsaken Mage are duking it out one on one, both frost mages with kind of even out gear. Toe to toe, counterspells, and Ice lances flying. We both using every trick in the book. I won barely with a fire blast, and instant spell. It was a good showdown, and after much sweating it was good fun.

2. In a Warsong Gulch Match, Alliance was tied with Horde 2/2. and we both had the flag ready to be capped, we needed to find, and destroy the enemy flag carrier. A team of 3 people including me found the EFC, and though he was a tough cookie, we got him down. I captured the flag and we won after my team mate captured the flag.

3. In Mount Hyjal, A Dirty Warlock slapped a curse on me, I started to whip on him good, after an insta Frostfire Bolt, he laid dying. In which I promptly tea-bagged him.

4. Stealing Pally Wings is Pure Awesome, and makes me look like a shexy beast.

These are just some of the few times in recent history I really enjoyed myself in WoW PvP, No it’s not perfect…then again what game is. I think the point is to have fun, and people are still having fun, cause I know I still am. In other news I got a new PvP helm last night. I’m excited cause I look like a bad motha fooker.

Tales of a Healing Bitch – Mana Starved.

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , on September 13, 2011 by theerivs

So I’m doing some PvP healing, and the biggest issue I have is Mana. I don’t know how my PvE counterparts are doing these days in terms of Mana. There was a day when Pallies never had Mana Issues.

Here are my theories as to why I have Mana issues.

1. I need to find more Mana efficient healing style for PvP - It’s easy to get a rotation down in PvE, but in PvP who fly by the seat of your pant’s more.

2. PvP gear sucks - Well at lower Ilevels it really does suck. With better gear I think I will have bigger mana pool.

3. Not really enchanted/gemmed - No many gem slots or enchants on my gear. I figure the stuff I have on now isn’t going to stick around, why bother.

4. Lack of Resources - No really many resources on the PvP Holy Paladin, at least none I found lately, to give me tips and such.

5. I suck – Maybe I just suck at healing, which is a possibility I may have to come to terms with.

My Own Mists of Panderia Prediction

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on August 30, 2011 by theerivs

Gordon over at We Fly Spitfires made a prediction, it seems Blizzard Trademarked Mists of Panderia. People are guessing it to be the new Expansion. I really think it’s just gonna be a bunch of fluff content Blizz is adding to make it more, and more like a Facebook game.

I thought it would be fun in a meme type way to have some predictions myself.

New Alliance Race : Pandarian…duh.

New Horde Race: Naga – The blood elves finally convince these fishy bastards to join.

New Class: I believe Gordon to be right with the Monk, but also I feel they will also introduce the Pirate to balance the Monks abilities.

Level Cap: Raised to 92

Spells : More we don’t need like Flame Orb.

Better Graphics: The Graphics engine will be upgraded to match curent technology from 5 years ago.

More Moral Decisions: To compete with Bioware, you will now be able to decide if you want to kill your Raid Mates in a fit of rage.

New Bosses: Such as  BOB, The Gelantionous Cube.

Well in all seriousness, I think WoW even though it’s still fun to play, is in it’s death throes but we shall see…The Proof is in the Pudding so they say.

Eff That!

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on August 26, 2011 by theerivs

So I took my Pally over to Azuremyst-US, PvE server *shutters*, and I joined the guild Eff the Ineffable.  I also decided to take my Pally in a direction I seldom go. I made him a Holy Paladin. Now I have to get some gear, and learn to Heal.

I’m no stranger to healing, I played a healer for two years in Dark Ages of Camelot until I got burnt out on healing. I never seriously healed in any other game because of that burn out. Now I have healed on my pally before in 5 man regular dungeons in Wrath to level up, but that’s about it.

So I’m excited over this new direction, I need tips and where to find good gear so if you are a Holy Pally feel free to lend me som 4-1-1.

Also excited about my new Dwarf Shaman, I never leveled a Shaman it will be interesting.

Now I am not leaving Stands in Bad, my guild on Azgalor, I’ll still be rocking the Fail Mage there, where I’ll try to be getting some gear to help out with Raids. Still don’t know if I’ll head back to serious raiding or not, but it will be nice to be there to help if need be.

Despite all the doom sayers, and people leaving WoW, I’m still having fun, and looking forward to doing a few things.

Weekly Lagout

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 22, 2011 by scarybooster

I think River is still gone, so I decided to take it upon myself and do his Weekly Lagout. Of course, a Weekly Lagout is not a Weekly Lagout without River. To make it up to you, I will be doing my best River impersonation. This will not be my Weekly Lagout, but what River would Lagout if he was here to Lagout. You’ll see…

RIFT- Well, I’ve lost interest in this game. I’m just waiting for my sub to run out. I feel lonely without my Mage. The game is just not cartoony enough for me. Maybe, I’ll resub to it in the future when they downgrade the fun.

WAR- I mentioned last week I was thinking about resubbing to WAR. I am still thinking. Since I’ve been drunk all week and think I pissed myself because I was thinking too hard, I think I might think a bit more about kerplunking my time into it. I miss WAR’s RvR, but I can’t get over how much the non-RvR sucks. I’m back and forth with this game. I just think I thunk, when I took a kerplunk from being so drunk, in my ex-girlfriend’s trunk that is full of junk.

STO- I bought the damn CE for this game! I feel so stupid for buying it. I feel I need to play it more. It is kind of like when you piss all over your hands and feel you NEED to wash them before eating popcorn. My hands are wet and I’m eating popcorn. Yeah, that warm yellow liquid is not butter topping.

WoW- Man, I have been salivating over my Mage goodness. I was like, pew, pew, frost shield, pew, pew, auction house bitch, pew, pew, riding in my choppa, Pyroblast, pew, pew, rollin’ in my six-deuce. I feel on top of the world with my Mage. I love my Mage. My Mage is sexy. I want to marry my Mage. <3 Mage

SWTOR- A lot of juiciness has been coming out of whale’s vagina Comic-Con. I see we can now preorder the game. I’ll tell you right now; I am going to play the crap out of this game until my Mage feels lonely. Ok, I’ll play it for 1 month and keep talking about how I am going to resub to it every Friday during Weekly Lagout. I just don’t think I can play a game that doesn’t have Mage. I’ll probably by the CE and regret it.

High Latency Love

I love myself, mainly. I want to thank Bee and Scarybooster for filling in for me. If Scary had a vagina I would be at his house in seconds. To Bee: She does have a vagina… Call me m’kay /wink. I’m sure I can get drunk and queue in a BG all night with you.

Somethin’ Funny

Your face!

WELL, MY CHICKEN CLUCKS AND I’M OUTTA BEER!

**From the Desk of River – I want to thank Scary, and Bee from the bottom of my heart. I hope you had as much fun writing this week, as I did reading your stuff. Your friend Riv.

Hai Guys!

Posted in Gaming, MMORPG, Other Nerdy Pursuits with tags , , , on July 19, 2011 by Bee

Well,  With Riv on vacaciones I volunteered to pick up the pen keyboard once again and fire out some blog posts.  I’ll be tending to the Tuesday and Thursday duties this week.

Yes, I’m still alive.  And I’m still playing WoW.

want. pretty. mount. nowwww.

Lately I’ve just been working on rated BG’s, ZA/ZG runs, Firelands trash rep runs, and I’ve taken a glimpse at Beth’alickty-lack and  SHANNOX.  I’ve mostly looked at SHANNOX face down after rageface humps me to death.  (Seriously, no one can put out a 30,000 crit for me?)  One of my first attempts at him I was with a pug group.  After dying to Rageface for like the 6th time in 6 attempts one of the tanks says over vent, “that Rageface just loves eating you out.”  He said it innocently enough, but i’ve never heard such a in-unison nerd giggle as connections began clicking.  Ah, the fun of being the lone girl voice in vent.  Of course, I couldn’t help but laugh along.

I went to a birthday party for a friend of mine from college a couple weekends ago.  This is a guy (we’ll call him “Julius”) who I went on a few dates with in college, but nothing really stuck.  As we’ve gotten older, facebook, in its infinite wisdom, has kept us in touch.  I tend to hear from him after a break-up or when he’s lonely.  The facebook internal messaging has recently changed, where now you can view the complete history of messages that you have sent and received from one person.  I can look back and see him asking me out (and my following rejections of his offers) in Feb 2007, April 2009 and now in June 2011.  His last attempt, and I quote,

“Hey Stranger.  Hungry for Sushi sometime?  I need to get out and stretch my legs in the single world again.”

I chose just to not answer this time.  Mainly because, OH GEE WOW, thanks for asking me to be your rebound.  Also, ”stretch my legs in the single world” sounds a lot like “stretch my dick in you so I can feel better about my girlfriend dumping me.”

A few weeks after this message was sent I recieve an invitation to his birthday party.  It’s being held at a downtown hotel at it’s rooftop bar. I see that a lot of my old friends from college will be there and in an excuse to hang out with them, I agree to go.  $760.00 worth of champagne later and “Julius” is drunk and horny.  He has gotten a suite at the hotel and a group of us decide to go check it out.  After he drunkingly tries to pull me into the bedroom area with him, promising to “rageface me,”  it was officially time to go. On my way home I begin receiving a series of text messages urging me to return.   Please take special note of the extreme overuse of the winky-face.

After attempting some pleasant rejections, I arrive home and log-in to play some WoW.  I still needed to get my dailies done, and let’s all admit it, drunken vent chats with guildies are always fun.  After forming a group for a Battleground, I start telling them about Julius’ attempts at banging me.  “He just won’t stop texting.”  One of my guild members makes a rejection suggestion I just can’t resist.

Fabulous idea.

Slave to the Grind

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on July 6, 2011 by theerivs

So I’m freaking about the gear grind, and I stumbled onto some things that really started filling out my gear. Which is nice cause my guild is too far ahead of me, and I have to solo alot.

1. You can buy justice points with honor points, you get 250 Justice for 350 honor,  So all that PvPing leveling up, really paid off.

2. You get a tabard you get rep, even in regular dungeons 80 dungeons.  I did Regular Violet Hold, didn’t take that long, and when I killed the bosses I got 300 rep per, not bad I think if your knocking around solo.

3. Doing Cataclysm regular dungeons half way geared is easy sauce indeed.

4. There are some nice pieces of gear on the AH for relatively cheap, I got a mace, and the Amani Handguard Bracers for about 2k gold.

5. There’s some nice craftable pieces, if only Chaos Orbs were purchasable, I heard it’s soon, but not soon enough.

So I look forward to gearing up my Pally….

….so he can collect dust, and I can level my Mage.

3.
