The Changer of Ways Has Deemed It So

dark__elf__witch_by_i_tavaron_i-d41aeezWarhammer Online is closing it’s doors, and even though I haven’t played it in awhile I’m still very sad, why? Cause me and WAR have a ton of history. I could say alot of bad things about WAR, how it had potential, and it failed to do this, or failed to do that. The bottom line was this game gave me alot, it started my blogging adventure, it opened the door for me to meet a bunch of people, it entertained me tons….so how is that bad?  As others post their goodbyes, I think it’s time I give this game a fitting tribute here.

Let’s set the wayback machine. When I first got the blogging bug in late 2007, start of 2008 I started just writing a personal blog, and once in a while I would write about my video game stuff.  I started reading about this new game coming out called Warhammer Online. Now let me tell you I’m a Warhammer Nut, yes I used to paint my little army men, and go to war with them. Then I fell on hard times, and couldn’t afford to do it, or had the time to do it, but with games like Dawn of War it fed my Warhammer fix. But here was an MMO coming out about the IP that I loved…ALOT…how much so, I have a Warhammer tattoo a symbol of chaos, it’s from 40k…but I still loved all of Warhammer.

Now I started to digest everything I could about this game, and started reading some awesome video game blogs that were dedicated to this game. One of them was the best, it was Syp’s blog WAAAGH! that inspired me to create my own blog. I called it WAY OF THE CHOSEN, because I loved Chaos, and knew I would only specialize in being a Chosen.

Some fond memories of that time…

My First Post – I wanted to start off with a story, I was actually borderline very RP’ey back then.

This Video – It still sends chills of excitement through my veins.

Mythic Loved Me – It was an honor to be a part of their Land of the Dead promotion, and I felt like my hard work was noticed.

Getting my Drunkard Title – One of my all time favorite titles…anywhere.

There are many…many more memories about this game, the people I met, the people I played with, dealing with Mythic. I wanted to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart, to Mythic, and the people and bloggers who worked, and wrote on Warhammer Online, and made it special.

May the Raven God Bless You.

Every Party Needs a Pooper

Everyone is excited about the new Wrath of Heroes announcement, and I guess I’m looking forward to sinking my teeth into it. I have to say I am not excited at all about it. I have some serious worries.

1. Taking players away from Warhammer Online – The serious PvP’ers on WAR will be gone, leaving the landscape even more barren.

2. No New Players in Warhammer Online - Why would a new player start from scratch, when they can hop into the action right away.

3. What happens if this is more popular then Warhammer Online? – Yeah WAR will be gone.

4. What does this mean for the MMO genre? – Are MMO’RPGs becoming a thing of the past, for the quick fix of play like League of Legends, and World of Tanks.

5. Where’s my Nurgle Champion? – Make this shit happen!

For more info check these guys out…

Overall this looks like a real interesting game, and I look forward to playing it, but it won’t take the place of my MMO diet.  I like having some ownership over the toons I play. I like it when someone goes, “Hey look it’s Rivs….That Douchebag.”

Gamesday Warhammer Online News

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on August 2, 2011 by theerivs

Others have posted the technical stuff way better than I could. Like Artiee recorded it. Gar Transcribed it. Werit, and Bootae went over it.

Me I’m just going to give my over all impressions.

I was first one there.  This one guy was setting up, and I was talking to these other two guys.  We had a huge laugh at a new ability Squigherders will have called “What the Fungus” it allows them to fly, and their arrows shoot more arrows, and nuke an area.

Turns out the guy setting up was producer of Warhammer Online, James Casey, and the two guys I was talking to was Steven Engle, a designer. and Will Austin, an artist.  My first impression was that these guys were just laid back, cool dudes like most gamers I met. I envision producers being bossy, and micro managers.  Mr. Casey was setting his own stuff up, which blew my mind.

Mr. Casey went through his spiel, where you can check on my friend’s sites for more info. Things I’m looking for.

Forts are back, and Relics make a come back into this game – I had good memories, and lack of sleep with relics in DAOC, I hope it brings more Open RvR back.

New Armor – At least for the Chosen, it’s so different. I really don’t know if I like it or not…..It has me confused…in a good way, not in a bad way when that old guy at the mall touched me…moving on.

Tzeentch Familiar – What can I say I like Demons.

Some usage of unused assets – Sylvania puhleeze, and some Land of Dead scenarios…inside a huge pyramid would be cool .

When the Q&A hit, there was this angry person who went on the attack. I was totally shocked and angry. I would have told him to go fuck off myself. Mr. Casey was alot nicer then I would have been but he was honest, and upfront. It takes alot of resources to create a new race, and new content like that.

Something else got me excited there were some people saying they were new subscribers. New Blood in a game where everyone thought was dying is a real good thing.

Well I’m looking forward to my 3am Relic Raid with my Chosen, and downing a gallon of caffeine, and when I see something off the wall, I’ll scream “What the Fungus” over vent.

I would like to thank the people over at Mythic trying to do the best they can, with what they got. You know what it really feels like we are all kind of in this together. I may take a step back once in a while, but here I am back into the fold, swinging my Chosen’s axe, because no matter what WAR has the most fun PvP I ever played, hands down.

P.S. I need some more Nurgle stuff though, maybe a set of armor that looks Nurgle inspired. :)

Games Workshop: Gamesday Chicago

Posted in Other Nerdy Pursuits with tags , , , on July 29, 2011 by theerivs

As you all may know, or not know I’m a huge Warhammer nerd, yes I used to field an army a long time ago. So long ago my army has been lost in the serveral moves since I played. I still love the lore, and the game itself. Just never really had the time to sit down and paint another army, or invest in finding worthy foes. Once I move yet again, I will be making a little area for myself to devote back to this hobby, because I want to get a hobby which steps away from the computer a bit.  I actually liked the Warhammer Online game, and a part of me still does. Nothing like the Inevitable City, the screams are like music to my ears.  I also read their novels religious, and ravenously.  Hardcore? I even have the Black Legion tattoo on me.

So when I heard Gamesday was coming up, I had a total Nerdgasm. I signed up to try to get some Press Passes, I hope I score. Somethings I look forward to is talking to the THQ guys about Space Marine, and their War 40k MMO.  I’m excited to see if Mythic has some announcements. I hope to meet some of the authors, and hopefully sign my books.

I feel it’s going to be a great day tomorrow, if you are going tomorrow, and want to meet up let me know cc0926 (at ) gmail (dot) com

I may also have to bring a change in pants, as well.

What’s Mythic Up To?

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on July 6, 2011 by theerivs

Mythic invited bloggers down to it’s office, and some via Skype.  As one that came from the trenches, and got my video game blogging chops from Warhammer Online, I am intrigued as to what the hubbub, There are some news of fortresses returning, class reworkings, and more scenarioss, with more news to come. These Bloggers are under an NDA so they can’t rightly say, but if they can’t say why invite them there to get others hyped up.

Mythic is the master of hype, and they know how to tickle a funny bone, which they once sent me for a promotion. Is it a little too little, too late though. Can this pull Warhammer out of the muck, and mire. I don’t know…My heart wishes it will……but my head thinks there is a bell tolling somewhere, and it tolls for Warhammer.

What could save it? A third faction that we always been begging for would be a great start.

Stuff your Sorry’s in a Sack.

So I was affected by the great Mythic debacle of  2010,  They offered an apology today.

I do agree, you know they could give me a free month, 15 bucks….which instead they are giving a choice of 2 things per toon. How you feel about this is probably very relative.  For some people,  they could be so hurt that nothing can win that back,  If I was charged thousands, and had overdraft fees up the yingyang, I would be more pissed than anything else, and would probably tell Mythic to go get bent…but I wasn’t.  I just had to sweat it out a bit. Considering Blizz just charged 25 bucks for a damn sparkly horse, I think this is a fair trade off in my eyes as well.

“For starters all players will earn 100% bonus experience and renown when killing enemies and monsters for two weeks. As well, during this time we’ll be hard at work designing and implementing a special vendor. This vendor will only accept special tokens that will be sent to your mailbox, using these two tokens each of your characters will be able to receive two of the following items:

•Bottomless Chaos Black Dye
•Bottomless Skull White Dye
•Imperial Griffon Mount (Order)
•Enslaved Manticore Mount (Destruction)
•WAR Tract – earn a free level
•Choose from any of these pets – Order: Imperial Hunting Hound or Dwarf Keg Handler; Destruction: Warlord’s Fell Hound or the Goblin Bar-Back.
•Change your appearance with any of these illusion items: Skaven Skin Cloak (skaven), Kossar’s Helm (bear), or the Signet of the Cursed Company (skeleton)”

Damn 100% more Renown…that is hot. I need it. Guess what, yeah I’ll be a WAR playing mug for the next few weeks. Now the problem is so many choices I don’t know what I really want. For my Chosen, The mount is kinda meh for me, cause I got the nice 150 gold mount (Thanks Ty), what I’m looking at is definately the Bottomless Chaos Black Dye. The other choices will be dependent on the toons. Maybe I should make a DOK too.

Well I’m glad Mythic is stepping up, and going above and beyond the normal game company. Kudos to them.

Am I angry at Mythic?

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on April 13, 2010 by theerivs

No, Mythic are the developers of Warhammer Online. EA is the one’s that messed up. Big time, they failed so much it’s not even funny.

Though I am not even angry.  I am sure if they took my very last dime, and overdrafted my account by hundreds like some people I am sure I would be REALLY angry. As angry as I am, I have been on this journey of life with EA, and Mythic. EA when they came out with Bard’s Tale in my youth, and Mythic as I played Dark Ages with them. Are they not allowed mistakes, and are they not allowed a pass once in awhile. Heck the government has a lot more issues, and we allow things to slide.

Here’s the thing though someone compromised my account a few months ago, second time in my life it happened. These people just took the money, I had to file a report, get a new credit card, etc…etc.

EA/Mythic was upfront, nice when I did call (Even though it wasn’t a toll free number), and what they said will happen, did happen. I got my money back, safe and sound

So I am not mad, or angry. I understand if other people are though, and they have a right to be. If it caused me grief like overdrafts, and credit report issues I would be really angry, but it didn’t.

Will I be using a game card from now on. No, there as well. An old Samurai lord once said, ” I would trust a samurai that did make a mistake over one who didn’t make a mistake, because the samurai who made a mistake will be more wary, more experienced. The samurai who has never made a mistake will not have that kind of wariness, thus will more likely commit a mistake.”

So EA/Mythic made a mistake, and I hope it’s resolved, and they hopefully will be more on the lookout for this kind of thing, so I will give them a pass this time….and who knows maybe a Beta to SW:TOR might be my reward for sticking by them.

Let me tell you what I do.

“If you don’t have my money for me, I’ll bash your head wide open. About the time your coming out of the coma, I’ll be coming out of jail, then I’ll bust your head wide open again. I don’t give a fuck about jail, I’m stupid like that. That’s what I do” ~Joe Pesci – Casino.

Goodfellas, and Casino are a couple of my favorite films. This situation with Warhammer has got me to a point where I almost want to put one of these guys in a trunk, and rough them up a bit.  Though I am not worse off then some people. I do understand these things happen, but this is a HUGE snafu. This mistake is gonna hurt the bottom line, which sucks real bad because it isn’t Mythic’s fault, it’s EA’s fault. They handle the account managemant.

I talked to Mythic today to their Non-Toll-Free Number, and waited 20 minutes, but it was a good piece of mind, they said they’ll be pushing more charges through today and tomorrow, and it goes in one lump sum, and does not go to pending.

Well at least they have my account info, and that I called in, and I will be patient and give them until Tomorrow.

If not, me and the boys will be loading a Caddy up, and taking a drive to Cali, but for those that are less gangsta then me, check out this info it’s pretty good.

MMO: Huge News

Posted in Gaming, MMORPG with tags , , on June 24, 2009 by theerivs

EA Mythic and Bioware. The News, or Here.  Snaffy’s take is really good too.

Lets start with Mark, love him or hate him, I think he was a pioneer. Mythic did something with MMO’s that was pretty unique back in the day. I think the direction he took with WAR was slightly wrong. He didn’t want a DAOC 2.0 with WAR IP. I think that might of been a mistake. Personally I liked him, and his company tried to do. I don’t know the reason Mark Jacobs is really leaving did he get canned, or did he step down. Maybe he’ll let us know through his blog, maybe he can’t say. I did post a nice message for him. He dedicated many years to gaming, and I hope he lands on his feet.

Now with the merger, I really don’t know what to think. Will Bioware help out WAR at all? Is everyone aligning forces to take down WoW? How will this effect Old Republic. Whatever the case this is huge. I look forward to see what develops.
