Eldar Scrolls Online First Wave of Betas Go Out

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on March 27, 2013 by theerivs

ConfusedSo I got word the first wave of beta invites went out. Well I know I won’t be one, well cause I didn’t sign up for one, nor will I.  First off I never really got into the Eldar Scrolls games, they never really appealed to me. Perhaps when they came out I was deep in the thrall of MMO’s, and if I want my RPG fix I’ll get it from that. Perhaps when I tried a game on the console I hated the controls, and UI. I prefer my RPG’s on computers, even then not so twitch oriented. Perhaps the lore didn’t really appeal to me.  I don’t know really why I don’t get into, or even looking forward to  ESO.

Maybe I’m a little messed up in my head. If you’re an ESO fan, why should I play this game?

Don’t make me angry

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on January 9, 2013 by theerivs

Hulk-the-incredible-hulk-14044617-1280-960You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry. I have a weird fascination with The Hulk. Yes I even enjoyed the Ang Lee Hulk abortion…though the Ed Norton movie was way better, and the way the Hulk was handled in the Avengers…meh.

So I got an email about the Marvel Super Hero free to play MMO that’s coming out soon. You can pre purchase heroes skins. I’m a little confused though you play as a hero you like, or you just have a skin that looks like them. I’ll have to do some digging to get more info. I really like the Marvel Universe, so even though I’m not huge on Superhero MMO’s , I’m going to keep my eye on this one..and may even play it. Cause if I can play as the Hulk…I’ll have a big green boner.

Sometimes it’s the People that make a good MMO

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on August 1, 2012 by theerivs

The reason I’m back at playing World of Warcraft is the people who are still playing the game. Those people no matter what is wrong with the game, still make it fun.

Last night a dirty warlock friend of mine Koala invited me to an old school Nax Run with her guild Shadow Rising. Well I did part of Nax on my mage, and I really wanted to finish that up on my mage. They we’re cool with it. So I brought the Arcane goodness, even though all my good gear is PvP stuff, they didn’t mind at all.  What a great guild they are, friendly, casual, and knowledgable. I didn’t get all their names,  I just remember the hunter Adoe, cause he was a giant most of the time, and a goblin named Pumpkinpie. How can I forget pie. I saw a goblin warrior, and I thought he looked wierd, and awesome at the same time in his little armor think he was Painsaw. I also remember my fellow mage always looked like she was casting. There was another lock there, but for some reason I can’t remember the name. If I forgot the others I apologize, I drink alot.  I was quiet for most of the beginning of the raid, but once I got a little more comfortable I cracked a few jokes. I’m still waiting for my mail order bride. *wink*   I apologize for the Stonard portal, old habits die-hard. If my guild wasn’t such a great group of people too, I’d be tempted to pay 30 bucks to transfer there I liked them so much. Any time they need an awesome mage, or shitty healing I’m their guy.

Afterwards I headed into Black Temple with my guild. I tanked with my shitty geared pally. Of course the jokes, and insults fly. When I first get there, “Make me food woman”, I shout. Our mage tells me to “F*$k off”  but I get my food. I never was in Black Temple, and I have to say I was in awe, the place was big. The Illidan fight was awesome simply for the fact I get to say, ”You are not prepared”   I died because of some mechanic of Illidan with the fire elementals, but my guild really didn’t need a tank they mopped the floor with Illidan. Had a great time, joking and having fun with my guild.

Great night got some xmog gear for my toons, though honestly I’m not huge into xmogging, especially for my forsaken mage, rarely anything looks that awesome on him.

A word about another MMO. Warhammer Online or WAR,  I wondered on Twitter why this MMO hasn’t gone F2P when SWTOR is. Someone said because it was a better MMO. I think he is right, but what I do know WAR had a great community, alot of great blogger came out of that MMO which are still writing today. Alot more solidarity in the factions, as well as people willing to help. How many times I had to drag people through bilerot for a chance at my tier shoulders, that I still don’t have. I don’t know about it being a better MMO, all I know it had better people in it, and that made it a better MMO.

Happy Birthday To Me.

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on July 25, 2012 by theerivs

Mists of Pandaria comes out Sept. 25, 2012. The day before my birthday. I think I’ll be taking a day off or three. Not because of MoP…because I take my birthday off every year. Now if it just so happens I play some video games during my time off, that’s just coincidence.

6 things I want to accomplish before MoP hits.

1. I want a proto drake for my Paladin, so I run Heroic UP alot.

2. I want the Albino Drake for the 50 mount Achievement, so I’ve been building city rep by doing heroic BC dungeons

3. Get Honor Gear for my mage, so I have something to level in. Cause purples make great leveling gear until you get the new greens.

4. Work on my Whorelock a bit, but this is not a huge concern.

5. Make an ASSTON of gold.

6. Figure out the new Talent Stuff, and get some builds in my head going.

Now of course I’ll have to do this post haste cause well GW2 is coming out, and I’ll be playing that too.

The Secret World Thoughts

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on July 16, 2012 by theerivs

Ok I got a little bit of a trial, not much in my opinion but I tried to do a little bit of everything

What I didn’t like -

Graphics – Glitchy, and seemed a little unpolished to me, even the cutscenes we’re a little janky which is one of my biggest pet peeve, you don’t have to have great graphics, but make sure they work.

UI – It seemed a little unpolished to me as well, like it was programmed by a college kid.

Combat – Some things I did like, but it seemed to range friendly to me, I would like to get in there and mess things up with my swords, but then all the mobs jumped on me.

The plot – It seemed all to little matrix to me, and sick of that beginning subway scene already, all 3 factions you had to do it. So much for Alts.

What I did like -

Guns – Seemed cool and different.

Plot – I liked the Templar plot the most, but the Dragon one even though a little confusing, when I made a chick toon, there was a pseudo lesbian scene there….so I didn’t mind all that much.

Skills - It was pretty cool the way you increased skills and such.

Overall – Not a BAD game, just one I know I wouldn’t stand for too long, and would jump ship as soon as GW2 came down the pike. I’m skipping this one and saving my money.

My Favorite Classes of MMO’s

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , on December 6, 2011 by theerivs

Some of you know me as the Mage, or the Chosen, but there were other classes I enjoyed from other games…some you might be suprised to read, but here it goes.

5. Smite Cleric  from Dark Ages of Camelot – I loved the versatility of this toon, and it was my first ever in the forays of MMOdom. I guess you always remember your first. Then came the great Smite nerf, and it made my Smite Cleric obsolete. I went to a healing cleric, and after a couple of years got burnt out on healing.

4. Necromancer from Age of Conan - I played alot of Necros in my life, this came closest I felt than the Necromancer in AoC. You had an army of minions, not just one, plus a good assortment of spells to kill things with .

3. Chosen from Warhammer Online - It let me be pure evil, and I was. I relished in everything Chaos. I loved the Inevitable City. I loved the art of Warhammer Online. I loved the feel, and visceral combat. In the end the game just got to be the same ole..same ole.

2. Mage from World of Warcraft – No class really represented me more than a mage. Noble Man who wielded powers beyond mortals grasp. Able to teleport at whim, and self sufficient for alot of things. Basically allowed me to bring out my inner Ass. I loved this class, the look, the feel, the rivalries between Warlocks, and Mages….Shadow Priests don’t count really.

1. Sith Warrior from SWTOR – I’m just going to say so far so good. The NDA has lifted, but mine hasn’t. I won’t start talking in earnest about this game, until I start playing in earnest.

LIES!

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on October 19, 2011 by theerivs

Sort of like this picture. I felt let down like when a hot girl whips out a huge penis.  I guess the Warhammer 40k news was all speculation, or a massive leak. THQ is denouncing that stuff.  It did have me a little worried that they had a date set in stone. It’s my fault I should of spotted the Adam’s Apple..and that is a dude  in the pic.

On other front, been playing Darksiders alot.  I like Action games, but I like pure visceral killing, I’m not big on move this block here, jump here, place your cock here type of puzzles. Still like the game though, I do enjoy throwing my big penis…er I mean sword around.  I played the demo of Space Marine on the PS3 too, I think I like it better on the PS3 too. I dunno.

Weird usually when I’m without Internet I go into convulsions if I can’t log onto a MMO os some sort. Not this time, I think there’s a massive lull or calm before the storm before SWTOR, and no 4.3 patch is going to help WoW.  At the end of December I have this feeling WoW is going to be a ghost town.

I decided I’m going Sith Warrior for SWTOR, I’m gonna name him Rivz, or Darth Cockulus, haven’t decided yet.  I might have to save the latter for an RP server.

To the Darkness, I bring Fire. To the Ignorant, I Bring Faith!

Ahhh more news on the Warhammer 40k MMO.  Syp speculates that it is strange how they are going about giving out info. Not me I think it’s a little refreshing. I like the fact they gave an exact date…something to look forward to, even though as a gamer we ALL know that it will be pushed back.

Some things I like -

-The progression sounds cool, and hero classes too.

-Chaos…Yes Please!

-Raid size of 50…whoa, performance better be spot on though.

-Real Duel Wielding.

Some things I don’t like too much.

- Twitch based game…meh.

- 2 Faction system…yet again. Give me 3 factions for Khorne’s sake.

- What no Inquisitors, or Sisters of Battle?

Roleplaying Devolved

Posted in Other Nerdy Pursuits with tags , , , , on August 3, 2011 by theerivs

When Scary wrote his piece on me and Roleplaying he was pretty much dead on with his assumptions.  Let’s start at the beginning.

I remember being about 8 or 9 year old, and being in a store, and seeing this book. Advanced Dungeons, and Dragons Monster Manual. In it were all these fantasy creatures, and little blurbs in them about these creatures that would let my imagination run free. I fell in love with Roleplaying. That’s right, I said it. I love Role Playing.

As I grew up I played Dungeons, and Dragons, mostly Advanced, then I started branching out. Star Frontiers, a space based roleplaying game by TSR, there was Marvel Super Heroes as well. Then I got into DungeonMastering, and would really get into that. Buying graph paper to build my dungeons.  I spent alot of Saturday nights eating chips, rolling dice, and creating worlds.

As time wore on the players who I played with no longer played Role Playing games, but my love never diminished. To this day even though I don’t actually play, I buy role playing books just in case. Remember Vampire The Masquerade, yea I got those books when they first came out just in case I found anyone who played….never did.

Meanwhile even though players were scarce for me, there were these computers that grew in popularity and power. It allowed me to play Role Playing Games, without anyone. I played such games as Bard’s Tale, and Pool of Radiance. Though it brought things more to life…there was something missing. I could never place my finger on it, still can’t, perhaps it was the human element, or lack of using your imagination.

Here we are today with MMO’s, and these people who call themselves Role Players. To me they are heretics of the craft which I love. Computers are not the evolution of roleplaying, but part of the devolution. It took something I loved, and made it foul, and dirty aka Pornshire. It made people elitist (Anna and her ilk), when that’s not what Role Playing is about.  When I see a person on a role playing server telling me they are a vampire half orc, I want to role play I just made the first shotgun, and blow them to smithereens.

That being said I think as much as computers leading to the downfall of roleplay, I feel they can be the greatest boon to real roleplaying. I recently saw hope. People using tools like Skype, and other wonderful computer tools. Fellow guildies taking part in a Dungeons and Dragons game.  Then the seminar with Fantasy Flight Games about their game Black Crusade.

Black Crusade got my Role Playing juices flowing again, and I am really excited about it. A game where you play a bad guy. Whoa never since AD&D with my lawful evil character have I been allowed to play the scum role, let alone a whole game revolving around the concept.  I look forward to it coming out, and who knows maybe I’ll be rolling the d20 once more.

I also love it when a girl role plays a dirty cheerleader…but that’s another post for a different day.

Weekly Lagout

Posted in General with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 22, 2011 by scarybooster

I think River is still gone, so I decided to take it upon myself and do his Weekly Lagout. Of course, a Weekly Lagout is not a Weekly Lagout without River. To make it up to you, I will be doing my best River impersonation. This will not be my Weekly Lagout, but what River would Lagout if he was here to Lagout. You’ll see…

RIFT- Well, I’ve lost interest in this game. I’m just waiting for my sub to run out. I feel lonely without my Mage. The game is just not cartoony enough for me. Maybe, I’ll resub to it in the future when they downgrade the fun.

WAR- I mentioned last week I was thinking about resubbing to WAR. I am still thinking. Since I’ve been drunk all week and think I pissed myself because I was thinking too hard, I think I might think a bit more about kerplunking my time into it. I miss WAR’s RvR, but I can’t get over how much the non-RvR sucks. I’m back and forth with this game. I just think I thunk, when I took a kerplunk from being so drunk, in my ex-girlfriend’s trunk that is full of junk.

STO- I bought the damn CE for this game! I feel so stupid for buying it. I feel I need to play it more. It is kind of like when you piss all over your hands and feel you NEED to wash them before eating popcorn. My hands are wet and I’m eating popcorn. Yeah, that warm yellow liquid is not butter topping.

WoW- Man, I have been salivating over my Mage goodness. I was like, pew, pew, frost shield, pew, pew, auction house bitch, pew, pew, riding in my choppa, Pyroblast, pew, pew, rollin’ in my six-deuce. I feel on top of the world with my Mage. I love my Mage. My Mage is sexy. I want to marry my Mage. <3 Mage

SWTOR- A lot of juiciness has been coming out of whale’s vagina Comic-Con. I see we can now preorder the game. I’ll tell you right now; I am going to play the crap out of this game until my Mage feels lonely. Ok, I’ll play it for 1 month and keep talking about how I am going to resub to it every Friday during Weekly Lagout. I just don’t think I can play a game that doesn’t have Mage. I’ll probably by the CE and regret it.

High Latency Love

I love myself, mainly. I want to thank Bee and Scarybooster for filling in for me. If Scary had a vagina I would be at his house in seconds. To Bee: She does have a vagina… Call me m’kay /wink. I’m sure I can get drunk and queue in a BG all night with you.

Somethin’ Funny

Your face!

WELL, MY CHICKEN CLUCKS AND I’M OUTTA BEER!

**From the Desk of River – I want to thank Scary, and Bee from the bottom of my heart. I hope you had as much fun writing this week, as I did reading your stuff. Your friend Riv.
