Kicking It Old School

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , on December 18, 2012 by theerivs

Carmen-Electra-carmen-electra-687885_1024_768When I first started playing MMO’s it was with a little game called Dark Ages of Camelot. I played a healing Cleric mostly, but I had an stealthy Infiltrator as well that I loved.  I use to take keeps, heal as my team mates battered down doors, and crush opposing players.

Fast forward 10+ years I’m doing the same thing in Guild Wars 2, and I’m loving. Oh sure I’m not healing this time around. I’m playing a burly twin axe, death dealing Warrior (Thinking of trying axe, and mace).  It’s great I’m only 25, but I’m helping out with the WvW.

Guild Wars 2 took some things awesome from DAOC, and some things from Warhammer Online (Except no Chaos. but meh) and made it their own.  The only thing I miss is climbing walls, and ganking clothies in keeps, then running the hell out of there.  I’m still having fun in GW2, and they won me over for now…we’ll see what happens at 80, when I’m all grown up.

For now the grind, and my march to 80 continues.

I Can Only Handle One at a Time

80918063It seems like I can’t take on more then 1 mob at a time in GW2. When fighting one on one I’m fine as a warrior, but it seems when I’m facing more then one opponent. It a challenge to stay alive. Am I doing something wrong, do I need better armor. I have the top healing skill. I mean is my survivalbilty that bad when I have 3 mobs on my I’m just screwed. Though I’m happy with one mob at a time, sometimes mobs jump me, and I’m forced to take them on.

Beside survival issues with my warrior. I’m enjoying the game, everyday I’m learning something new, and duel axes is a beast. I can’t wait to head into PvP.  I want to get into the economy more, instead of just vendoring all the stuff I need. I’ve been selling it at auction.

Big Fan of Vikings

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on December 6, 2012 by theerivs

Viking fansI logged back into Guild Wars 2 the other day, and I have to say I’m having some fun with it. When I first started playing I was a Necromancer, and I really didn’t get the feel for that class. I kept playing it until level 15, until i had enough. That’s what led me to step away from GW2 for a while.  So I logged in decided to play my Norn Warrior. I am loving it with dual axes just ripping crap up. I’m living the Vikings life. I haven’t giving up on WoW yet, but I feel it’s time for a break . I hate the dailies, LFR doesn’t seem challenging, sick of heroics, and PvP is a joke. Though maybe in future patches they will clear some things up.

To be honest I have been a long fan of Vikings ever since I saw the movie Vikings with Kirk Douglas, and Ernest Borgnine. When Earnest as Ragnar jumped in a pack of half starved mad wolves laughing and screaming Odin!. I was hooked. Drinking, wenching, pillaging, and fighting….it’s a man’s life.

So when I log into GW2, I let my inner viking out, now I’m only level 10 so i have a long way to go, but we’ll see where this road takes me. Oh when they say a quest is reccommended for a certain level, might want to wait a little bit until your closer to that level. Tried doing a level 12 quest at 9….got my ass handed to me.

This the flavor of the month for me, or will I stick to it i don’t know yet. Right now I’m having some fun.

My Intentions

Well I’m having such a good time with my old guildies in WoW. Alas the time is drawing near with Guild Wars 2, which I plan on playing with the rest of my guild who is planning on playing this.

Basically in WoW, I’m going to prepare my toons for MoP, get some better gear for leveling. Also get my baby warlock a little more levels.

I’ve been putting alot of thought into what toons I want to play in Guild Wars 2.  I just can’t seem to make up my mind which toon I want to start with.

I like the Human Elementalist, or Necromancer, but then again a Norn Warrior would be awesome. Hello a Viking.  I played one Beta weekend so i got some flavor. I think it really depends where the guild is going, and what they need. I could play any toon really as long as I’m needed by the team.

Arenanet perverted what Beta was all about.

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on July 2, 2012 by theerivs

Beta to me in the past was all about testing a game, and seeing if there was bugs in it. It was usually free, and only a few select got in.

That isn’t the case for Arena net -

Ways Arenanet have screwed up Beta

1. Money Trap  - If you bought their game outright, thus locking you into the game, so if it sucked, you’re stuck with a bunch of crap.

2. Half the game isn’t there – 2 races not being beta tested…that’s pretty big. Is this game being rushed all of a sudden?

3, Mistakes Made – Bad Mojo when you send out beta invites, and then take those invites back. The axe hangs heavy over Arenanet.

4. Concepts – The WvWvWvWvW…whatever crap in theory sounds cool, but the incentive doesn’t sound like its there.  Everyone is a happy one team..until we go to a special zone. I want to hate something.

GW2 is shiny and new, but will I be playing it in a month I don’t know, only so long a hot goth girl necromancer butt can keep me entertained.

Raise the Shields

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , , , on June 27, 2012 by theerivs

Sooo I was stalking the Time Lost Proto Drake again. I was just hanging out there. All of sudden *POP* he shows up. I launch my shield at him. I got him…I got him….*SPLAT* Forgot to raise my shield. I fell thus died. By the time I returned. Someone else nabbed him, which is odd within secondes their were like 4 people there. Weird.  I cried myself to sleep.

Alot of talk about the Secret World, and it’s PvP. Couple reasons I won’t be playing Secret World. The Setting doesn’t appeal to me, I hear the graphics are glitchy, and combat sucks. In addition, Funcom made it, and after I was burned on Age of Conan, they have been pretty much black listed for me, unless they made something that really blew me away…and Secret World…is too full of meh.

Though some exciting things in RIFT too, it just isn’t enough to pull me back either. SWTOR, and Diablo 3  lost my interest as well. The only thing on the horizon that I’m looking forward to is GW2, but you know what how long will that go before I lose interest in that as well.

For now, I’m happy just healing pvp in WoW, I’m not awful at it, and it’s fun playing with some old guildies. Before I quit WoW though I’m going to get that mofo TLPD…if that’s the last thing I do.

GW2, and My Own Little Goth Girl

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , , on April 30, 2012 by theerivs

GW2, and myself got to a rocky start. I got the beta invite after I signed up my code, but it kept saying that there was no beta events going on. Arena.net finally fixed the problem Saturday night (well might of been early Saturday, but I didn’t have a chance to check)  So though I was a little sour I wasn’t able to check it out as much as I liked. I did get a chance to check it out.

1. Graphics – We’re pretty awesome, at times I thought when I was in a crowded area it was hard to make out things to clearly. I dumbed down my graphics, though it didn’t help.

2. Gameplay – I enjoyed the stories, the cut scene conversations were ok, I didn’t enjoy them as much as I did SWTOR, cause it just felt like I wasn’t a part of the conversation. The music, voice acting, and sound effects we’re all top notch.

3. Combat - I enjoyed it immensely I like how you work up to skills, not just train for them. Some of the spells, and combat animation we’re really cool.  When you get close to death, you could fight for your life.

4. Classes – I really like the class mix, and there are some definantly fun classes.

5. Races- I really liked the race choices so far, Didn’t think I would like the Charr, but I ended up kind of liking them. They remind me alot like Klingons.

6. More Detailed Experience – Once I got in after the Arena.Net snafu. I really loved the charactor creation process. It’s like your building your toon, and it’s backstory. Although I’m not an RP player by any means, I think RP players would get wood from this…but then there isn’t many choices so maybe they won’t.  I made a Norn Thief. I love this guys, stealth though isn’t permanent, it only gave me 3 seconds, which sucked. 3 seconds isn’t enough to do anything.  I entered an instance myself at level 3….MISTAKE!. But I learned the hard way, and still had fun.

Next I made an male human elemantalist, I really liked this toon as a spell caster, you didn’t stay a glass cannon, you could move around, and still be effective. Casters in this game are definately pretty cool.

After I played the intro, I started a Charr Warrior. Man I really liked the vibe of this race, and class. Very Klingony, with words like Ash Legion, Blood Legion, Iron Legion, and with their voice acting…..I can almost scream Q’plah!

Finally I made my own Goth Girl Necromancer….She was hot.  I wasn’t to impressed with the blood fiend pet you got. The spells you got we’re cool.  I wish I had more time to play her…but I was to busy geting her naked in her yellow underwear…and flirting with guys…wait…er I mean I was min/maxing her stats.  Yea that’s what I meant…

Overall - I enjoyed my experience in the first Beta, I really looking forward to them cleaning and working on things. If it was released today, I don’t think it would make it, cause to me it smacks of something missing, not quite there. I can’t put my finger on it yet. Like a great blueberry pie, that needs to cook a bit longer, thats the reason they have betas so we can figure this out.  Otherwise definately a great game, and looking forward to playing it some more.

All Aboard…The Hype Train

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , on April 27, 2012 by theerivs

Guild Wars 2 is Ramping up, and I really want to get on the hype train, preorder the game, and hop into Beta, and bathe in all that is GW2.

But I must resist, cause I’ve walked this path too…too many times before with Warhammer Online, and SWTOR. Though I had fun on both counts, I’ve been let down by both games, and they didn’t deliver to really grasp the need I had.  I’m Even Looking at the Collectors Edition, something I vowed I wouldn’t do again, but a Rytlock statue WOULD look cool next to my Darth Malgus.

What’s sucking me back in the Hype Train.

1. WvW – Being as DAOC was my first MMO, and you always remember your first. The smacks of those days, and gets me excited.

2. Necromancer Class- It smacks alot like the Warlock class of WoW, but I just like the Vibe of it.

3. Norn, and Char Race – I just really like these races, especially the Norn, cause…well I have a Viking fetish.

4. The Polish – GW2 is just looking really polished from all the videos I’ve seen. Good Videos mean more fuel for the hype train.

5.I’m not sure it’s Hype – Arena.net might just live up to all this hype. They might actually succeed where others have failed and breathe new life into the MMO genre…..then again they may not.

As always though in parting I wish you love, peace, and soooouuuullll!

Who do I have to blow to get a beta invite?

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , , on January 24, 2012 by theerivs

I was going to name this post “The Dragon Awakes” or something equally craptastic after this post from Arenanet. Alas I really do want a beta invite, and I think this would be more compelling I think. So with a nice whorish shade of lipstick on, who exactly do I have to blow to get a beta invite for GW2.

Like a good Beta Hooker that I am, I’ve had plenty of John’s like Bioware, I’ve been in the sack with Blizzard too, as well as a multitude of other game companies. Sometimes I been in the middle of a Beta Bukkake, as I beta test several games at the same time, all of them spewing forth their buggy goodness onto my face.

GW2 looks hot, and ever since talk began swirling about it there has been an unquenchable burning in my loins. I want to be a part of the hot, sticky, adventure and feel the ups, and downs of this beta, thrusting my opinions deep into the recesses of the developers minds.

I can’t wait to hear from you Arenanet, until then I’ll just slowly eat these bananas, carrots, and popsicles I have here.
