Impressive…but I’m no Jedi Yet.

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, My friend” – Bruce Lee

I have been blogging roughly for 3 years, and during that time I went from just blogging about my personal life, to blogging about Warhammer Online, to blogging about MMO’s in general.

There are a few times I have been taken aback, and just humbled. Such as when Tobold actually gave me a personal advice, or when Mythic took notice of my blog, and made me part of an in-game event for Land of the Dead (I still got a boner…er I mean the bone from that).

Now I am just humbled to be mentioned by Massively.com for a blog to watch in 2011. To be mentioned along some of the greats of this hobby we call blogging like Syp, Ysharros, Spinks, Larissa, MMO Gamer Chick, The list goes on, and on is not only that am I deeply honored, but humbled at the same time.

The credit is not mine alone. Bee was huge part of making this blog what it is, and continues to add her personal touch to this blog.  I am nothing without the support of my friends, which the list is huge, to huge to list all of you but I want to just mention two special one Scary, and Slurms.  Scary is probably one of the hugest supporters of all that I do, and I would be totally remiss if I didn’t thank him. Slurms too, gave me an opportunity to be on his podcast, and to let you the reader actually hear the lyrical tones of my voice. I have alot of love for Slurms, and the Multiplaying crew. I would also like to thank Massively for taking notice of the hard work me, and Bee do for this blog.

Last but never least thank you to the readers, I always say I write for myself, and I do. Let’s face it though it’s you, and the commenters that keep me motivated to keep pumping out this crap on a daily basis.

As we head into 2011, be sure to stay with us as we travel the MMO universe and bring you tales of wonderment, and excitement…..and an occasional dick joke.  Stay with us as we live the High Latency Life.

MMO: I Have Achieved Nothing

Posted in MMORPG with tags on August 12, 2009 by theerivs

Well it seems the topic of the day is Achievements on the Blogosphere. Spinks had a really well written and lovely article, I couldn’t top it if I tried, neither will I rehash it. Like Syp, and Tobold I will toss in my two cents though.

Honestly I hate the Achievement system of any game. I wish I could turn such systems off to be honest. In WAR we had the Tome of Knowledge, with brags…Oh I killed 100 Archmages. In WoW the Achievement System.  To me is a modern day version of Top Score, remember the 3 initials you got to put in on Asteroids back in the Arcade days….well your probably too young, maybe you don’t even know what an Arcade is.

Well when you got top score you got to put in 3 initials. Mine was RIV. Yeah I had this nickname for longer then I can remember. Anywho….Did people come into the Arcade and go, “Geez who is this RIV guy (because back then girls didn’t play games :P ), because I need to get his autograph he is so awesome!”  No they didn’t.  What would happen is I would walk into the Arcade, and either go, “My name is still up there, I AM THE GREATEST!.”, or I would go, “Crap, someone beat me, I gotta waste 5 dollars to get back my throne.”

Back then it was self serving, and pointless to anyone really but yourself.  It’s just another way to make your E-Peen grow. Hey we can measure by length (gear), and now acheievements(girth)

Well it’s Achievements like them or hate  them, I don’t think there going away. Actually I did cave a little last night. I was in an awesome heroic group, and we were in Nexus. The leader said, “Lets go for the achievement!”  I was like, “Really, Seriously?” Since I’m just a mage I don’t speak up to often, but as we started unloading everything we got, and that little Achievement popped up. At first I was like, “Well that’s cool”

Then I thought about it. It’s a hollow sort of victory because, well once I have the Achievement, Why try for it next time?  No the Achievement system almost swayed, and lured into the Achievement mindset. I almost fell down the slippery slope of looking at them and going. “Geez everyone will look at this and think I AM THE GREATEST!”

Then I realize I am quick becoming a cantankerous old man, and that the achievement systems they have isn’t for me.
