Day 15 – My Desktop Backgrounds, and Why I Chose It.

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , on March 22, 2012 by theerivs

Always Black, that’s it…that’s all.

Why Black?  It’s devoid, empty, dark, sorta like my soul.

I think this is my shortest post…evah. LOL!

Day 14 – This Upsets Me!

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , on March 21, 2012 by theerivs

If you follow my blog you may already know what grinds my gears so to speak, but let’s review.

What upsets me?

6. Not Pulling my Weight- It drives me nuts when I don’t pull my weight, and I fail to do my job as part of a bigger team whether that’s a raid, or during PVP

5. Bossy People – You know the minus 50 dkp type. There’s a way to get people to do what you want without throwing something around especially your weight.

4. Idiots – I don’t mean people who know, ansd know they don’t know. I can always teach them. I’m talking those that do not know, and think they know…they are fools, shun them.

3. Beggers – I like to be generous, but if you’re begging from me you are barking up the wrong tree. I’m a self made kind of guy, if you need gold go kill mobs…you’ll get it soon enough.

2. Holier Than Thou Role Players - People that role play, and feel their shit don’t stink. They are the worst lot of hypocrites in the world. They will excuse Pornshire, but if you do something not right or out of place, and your going to be verbally gangbanged by the creme de la creme of pompous asshats.

1. Anna - She’s my sworn enemy…and I hates her my precious.

Day 12 – Usual Day in my life/online time

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , on March 16, 2012 by theerivs

Well I don’t get much time these days, I’m playing SWTOR so first thing I do is check in with my slicing stuff, get my crew mates started again. Then I head out to finish/do quests, and try to squeeze in a little PvP.

When I was max level in WoW or other games, it usually turns to making gold, or PvPing my 2 favorite things to do in PvP.  I don’t really raid anymore, or do too much planned activities. So most of the time I’m just milling about looking for something to get into.

I really don’t have too many agendas in life….real…or virtual.

Day 11 – Bad Habits/Flaws

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , , on March 15, 2012 by theerivs

Where do I begin, the drinking, the cussing, being a man-whore….oh wait maybe this meant to be just gaming or blogging flaws, and bad habits. Here’s some of them, well at least the ones I’ll cop to.

Top 5 Bad Gaming Habit’s Flaws-

1. I don’t use many macros – My biggest regret is not being more proactive with macros.

2. I don’t optimize my gear for my level – As long as I am killing shit I don’t care.

3. I hate quests – I would rather kill 100 mobs, so sometimes I avoid them. Once in awhile I miss out on something cool.

4. I loathe role-playing in video games – I think everybody knows that.

5. Always broke- I spend in-game currency like a drunken sailor in a 2 dollar whore house.

Top 3 Blogging Bad Habit’s and Flaws

1. Your/You’re – I always screw those up, I mean I try but it just eludes me sometimes.

2. Perspective – First Person/Third Person sometimes I just don’t know how to stay in one perspective…sometimes even tense.

3. Too Short – Sometimes I don’t expound, or develop an idea fully, but what do you get when you pound a post out in 3 minutes with no planning, like this one.

I can really go on and on here, but I think we can all agree I suck.

Day 04- Your best gaming memories

Posted in Writing with tags , , on March 1, 2012 by theerivs

This post could easily go on forever…..there was so many memories that I shared with some awesome people that made  gaming even more fun, but this will be limited to the top 5 of  just pure gaming moments, and leave the people out of the equation for now

My 5 Best Gaming Moments –

5. Aliens Versus Predators – First time I ripped off a Marines Head. That was pure awesomeness.

4. Dark Age of Camelot – First time I went on a relic raid, I felt a part of something.

3. Bards Tale (Original on Commodore 64)  – I really had this wonderful sense of accomplishment, and it was my first RPG I actually beat.

2. World of Warcraft – Molten Core- Beating Ragnaros, after months of working on Molten Core, we finally got him down it was like a party

1. World of Warcraft -BWL-  While Raiding BWL, One of our pallies who was a wee bit drunk, let of a scream over Vent going, “GO TEAM GO” over and over again, and then ran over to the 3 large Drakanoids  I was laughing so hard, it was ridiculous.

I got alot more memories, but when I think of these memories I always get a little chuckle, and smile.

Day 03 – My first day playing a MMO/WoW

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , , on February 29, 2012 by theerivs

Well my first MMO was Dark Ages of Camelot. I was in a clan called Hell’s Elite Legion for Aliens versus Predators, and they started a chapter for this new game, being recently laid off, I had a little time on my hands.

Aren’t first days in MMO’s  all about character creation, and then maybe get to level 5 or 10, or getting through the starting zone. Well it is for me, and it won’t ever change I don’t think.

Since it was almost 10 years ago, it’s a little hard to remember my intial thoughts. I think it took me a long time to get through character creation, we needed a healer so a cleric was born, he was avalonian cause there was bonuses I think to avalonians. His name was Riverian.. I also remember that I was amazed at the scope of this place, and the almost freedom it felt to go anywhere or do anything compared to being on a “Map” and running around in circles. I was hooked.

As for WoW – I was in Beta, but I remember the sense of awe I had, here I was in the world of warcraft, a world I loved ever since playing Warcraft 1.  I took my time and looked at the details a little more, and was simple impressed. When it went live, I remember making a preist, and he didn’t last too long. I was burned out from Healing…even way back when.  Shortly after I took up my love for Tanking with a warrior named Rivgorian.

Day 02 – Why I decided to start a blog?

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , on February 28, 2012 by theerivs

Well it started at a bar, which is how most of my stories start…or finish. I was at a bar, and a friend of mine who I haven’t seen in years told me she wrote a blog. I checked it out, and decided I could do this. I like writing, and I have a lot of downtime at work. So my personal blog started Chaotic Ramblings.  I was writing, and I did a couple posts about my love for video games, about this time Warhammer Online was right around the corner, and I decided I really wanted my own video game blog. I decided that there were tons of World of Warcraft blogs, I’ll make mine warhammer, well I knew I was going to be playing this game. I have a warhammer tatoo for crying out loud. Thus Way of the Chosen was born, despite Tobold told me to make a more general blog. I am never one to listen though. After having some wonderful adventures (how many of you have a hip bone from Mythic? I do), and meeting some great people. It was time to move on.

Thus High Latency Life was born….and here I have been ever since.

I don’t moderate

Something flew past my little radar on Spinks blog, which it’s a very interesting post. The topic about sexism is near and dear to my heart, since feminists tend to shun me like the black plague. The thing that caught my eye is the call to moderate Spinks makes.  I just want to toss this up, I don’t care how crude a statement is, or crass. I would never delete a comment, even when that statement is against me.

I once had an angry reader, who was a role player and didn’t like my stance on the topic. He did some research on me, found out I was still living with my mother. He made a comment to the fact I was a loser for such. What he didn’t know is I moved back in with my handicapped mother to take care of my stepfather who had a stroke. I only removed the comment because the author of the comment asked me to.

Why do I have such a liberal policy on my blog, because I believe in the freedom of speech. I love this country, and one of our greatest freedoms is the freedom of speech, even though I don’t agree with what you say, I believe you have the freedom to say it, to take away that right on my blog…would make me more of a hypocrite then I already am, even I have limits to my hypocrisy.  Now that’s a personal choice on my blog, and if you make a stupid comment, be prepared to made fun of and ridiculed.

I think me and Spinks will just have to agree to disagree about what this great thing we call an internet is about, I believe it’s a place of freedom, and anarchy…and she thinks it’s a place that needs to be more controlled, and limited.

Day 01- Introduce Myself

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags on February 27, 2012 by theerivs

Hi My Name is River, and I love Video Games…..

Really if your like me, that’s all the intro I need, because we are kindred spirits. All of us. We all love video games…unless you popped in here from a search of “shemales” and “video games”…in that case…Hi.  In the spirit though that is this challenge, I will enlighten you, and at a slighty more less degree try to entertain you these next 20 days.

Hello my name is Chris, all my friends call me River. It’s been my nickname for as long as I can remember. It’s so bad, I was going to a family wedding and the girl who I was dating for a few months was coming with me. I told her, “Now if they mention Chris at all that’s me”,  She goes, “Your real name isn’t River? When were you going to tell me? ”  I replied, “I don’t think I was going to.”  It’s also the name I attribute to all my online presence, well except that time that I was in the lesbian chat room…wait nevermind.

What everyone asks me is why do they call me River, well there is a story, and it’s not bad but I don’t tell anyone because the person who dubbed me that name is no longer with us, and it’s his story to tell….because I was way to drunk to remember the finer details.

I live in a small suburb of Chicago, called Tinley Park in the great state of Illinois. It’s where I grew up as a child as well.  I work in computers as a Network Administrator. I like Pina Coladas, and Dancing in the Rain…..

Wait where was I….

Oh well in terms of gaming I remember my first video game experience, it was at a neighbors house. They had a Pong set, every since then I devoured all that was games, like Combat, Adventure, Pitfall on the Atari 2600, then I got a Commodore 64, where I played such classics as Bards Tale, or Pool of Radiance. I supplemented that with an overbundance of my time spent in the arcades, playing Street Fighter II, or Mortal Kombat. I even had a love affair with pinball.

I grew up, and so did my video games, so no longer am I jumping pixelated crocs. I’m destroying Warlocks in WoW, or Using the Force in SWTOR, or commanding Space Marines in Dawn of War 2. Maybe that’s why I love Video Games so much, because unlike the movies, or a book I choose my fate whether it be winning or losing. My decisions affect the outcome of the source of my entertainment.

By the way that’s me in the picture, with a fake beard on for St. Patty’s day. So I will end this post, where I started. I love Video Games, and I’m the River….damn glad to meet you.
