I don’t moderate

Posted in Other Nerdy Pursuits, Writing with tags , , on February 27, 2012 by theerivs

Something flew past my little radar on Spinks blog, which it’s a very interesting post. The topic about sexism is near and dear to my heart, since feminists tend to shun me like the black plague. The thing that caught my eye is the call to moderate Spinks makes.  I just want to toss this up, I don’t care how crude a statement is, or crass. I would never delete a comment, even when that statement is against me.

I once had an angry reader, who was a role player and didn’t like my stance on the topic. He did some research on me, found out I was still living with my mother. He made a comment to the fact I was a loser for such. What he didn’t know is I moved back in with my handicapped mother to take care of my stepfather who had a stroke. I only removed the comment because the author of the comment asked me to.

Why do I have such a liberal policy on my blog, because I believe in the freedom of speech. I love this country, and one of our greatest freedoms is the freedom of speech, even though I don’t agree with what you say, I believe you have the freedom to say it, to take away that right on my blog…would make me more of a hypocrite then I already am, even I have limits to my hypocrisy.  Now that’s a personal choice on my blog, and if you make a stupid comment, be prepared to made fun of and ridiculed.

I think me and Spinks will just have to agree to disagree about what this great thing we call an internet is about, I believe it’s a place of freedom, and anarchy…and she thinks it’s a place that needs to be more controlled, and limited.

Day 01- Introduce Myself

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags on February 27, 2012 by theerivs

Hi My Name is River, and I love Video Games…..

Really if your like me, that’s all the intro I need, because we are kindred spirits. All of us. We all love video games…unless you popped in here from a search of “shemales” and “video games”…in that case…Hi.  In the spirit though that is this challenge, I will enlighten you, and at a slighty more less degree try to entertain you these next 20 days.

Hello my name is Chris, all my friends call me River. It’s been my nickname for as long as I can remember. It’s so bad, I was going to a family wedding and the girl who I was dating for a few months was coming with me. I told her, “Now if they mention Chris at all that’s me”,  She goes, “Your real name isn’t River? When were you going to tell me? “  I replied, “I don’t think I was going to.”  It’s also the name I attribute to all my online presence, well except that time that I was in the lesbian chat room…wait nevermind.

What everyone asks me is why do they call me River, well there is a story, and it’s not bad but I don’t tell anyone because the person who dubbed me that name is no longer with us, and it’s his story to tell….because I was way to drunk to remember the finer details.

I live in a small suburb of Chicago, called Tinley Park in the great state of Illinois. It’s where I grew up as a child as well.  I work in computers as a Network Administrator. I like Pina Coladas, and Dancing in the Rain…..

Wait where was I….

Oh well in terms of gaming I remember my first video game experience, it was at a neighbors house. They had a Pong set, every since then I devoured all that was games, like Combat, Adventure, Pitfall on the Atari 2600, then I got a Commodore 64, where I played such classics as Bards Tale, or Pool of Radiance. I supplemented that with an overbundance of my time spent in the arcades, playing Street Fighter II, or Mortal Kombat. I even had a love affair with pinball.

I grew up, and so did my video games, so no longer am I jumping pixelated crocs. I’m destroying Warlocks in WoW, or Using the Force in SWTOR, or commanding Space Marines in Dawn of War 2. Maybe that’s why I love Video Games so much, because unlike the movies, or a book I choose my fate whether it be winning or losing. My decisions affect the outcome of the source of my entertainment.

By the way that’s me in the picture, with a fake beard on for St. Patty’s day. So I will end this post, where I started. I love Video Games, and I’m the River….damn glad to meet you.

Words have Consequences.

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , on February 9, 2012 by theerivs

An ex-Guild Master of mine once said, “Words have Consequences” to me, saying something, or in some cases not saying something is an action, and I am a firm believe that all actions whether good or bad lead to results, those results lead to other choices, that require action…well to quote Mr. Roosevelt, “Life is just one damn thing after another”  Bossy Pally had a lovely post on Words, and their effect and I thought I would do a little post myself.

Words I Wish They Would Stop Using!

5. Nigga – I hate the fact 13 year old white boys are saying this too each other, without knowing what it means, or what it stands for. They hear the black people calling each other that, and they think it’s cool. It isn’t cool, you walk into an all white upscale store as a black man and see how cool it is to be black. Sure things are getting better, but they are far from perfect.  The term Nigga is a friendly version of the racist word Nigger which means ignorant person. Call each other ignorant all you want, because most likely you are.

4. Fag – Like Nigga, this is tossed around way too much. Being a Homosexual in todays society is rough, you get picked on, maybe your an outcast, so you seek solace in the World of Warcraft, and here you have a Paladin Tank calling you a Fag, cause you can’t heal fast enough.

3. Bitch, Cunt, Any other word denoting you are womanly -  This irks me a bit, because what’s worse then being a homosexual, it’s being a woman. Gamers being male feel that being a woman is weak.  Really my Mom spit me out at 11lbs of an orifice of her body, jesus if that’s weak, I’d hate to see these guys do that. I cringe after burrito night, and I gotta shoot something pretty large out of my ass.

2. Rape - I loathe this word being used in connection with games, and try very hard not to use it in my gaming vocabulary. Rape is a bad thing, I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. Hey being a guy don’t think you’ll get raped, you may not. I hope you keep your nose clean, because guess what nerdy little white kid, you end up in prison…yeah you’ll have a new meaning to the word rape. Let’s just say you may want to buy some soap on a rope.

1. Pwned – I hate this fucking word. Let’s stop using it please.

I’m the Diet Coke of Evil

Posted in Writing with tags , on January 30, 2012 by theerivs

Even though in the virtual world,  I am Lawful Evil, and in every game I dedicate myself to the forces of malice, and chaos, and basically the douche bag of the blogosphere.  In my real life realm, I try to give back with my time and money.

When I recently received an email about Iron Man Mode, and their endeavor to rise awareness, and give back to the community I felt compulsion to give them some props.

Iron Man Mode is an interesting concept, I find intriguing. You play a game, when you die the blog dies. That’s pretty cool I would think, though this blog would be dead 8,000 times over. Well I played a Mage in WoW for years, we died anytime some one dropped a hat.  Even though I just started reading them, I can already tell they are up to the challenge. So check them out.

Also check out their charity page, and try to help them raise some money for Child’s Play. I’ll be giving them a little money, as soon as I rob some piggy banks from little babies….Wha? Ain’t like I’m eating the babies….like I do SWTOR.

Why Do I Blog?

Posted in Writing with tags , on January 23, 2012 by theerivs

Scary laments about his skills, and the whatfors of his blogging. It had me thinking why do I blog. I mean I suck at writing, I am not that well informed, I couldn’t min-max a stat to save a life.  Compared to some of those bloggers on his list, I am a flea on the blogospheres ass.

So why am I here….why do I waste my time, and possibly yours. I think it’s time for a list, cause the Internet loves a list.

1. It’s a hobby – People don’t build models of airplanes because they are going to show them off in competition with each other for the most part. People build model airplanes to reduce stress, to take a step back from life, and do something they enjoy.  I don’t take this overtly serious, it’s just something I do when I have time.

2. I enjoy writing – Even though I suck at it,  I enjoy doing it. I like to play chess too, and I suck at that as well. It takes me about 10 minutes to write a post, just imagine if I actually put effort into this.

3. Part of something – Even though I am a small shadowy corner of the blogosphere, I feel I am a part of it.

4. Camaraderie – I feel without blogging, I wouldn’t of met so many interesting people, and keep meeting them.

5. Bad Boy – I got this reputation among the blogosphere as a little bit rough around the edges bad boy, and I feel I have a niche to fill. Way to many good guys out there, someone has to be an asshole, and I am that man.

Hi my name is River, Who the hell are you?

Posted in Writing with tags , on January 19, 2012 by theerivs

So I like to gander who is coming to my website, and from where once in awhile, and once in a while I come up with some strange site or another. Here’s the most recent strangness. Some Forums put a link to me from their site. I don’t even know why cause it’s all in a different language. I think it’s some sort of Russian.

This is what they said about me.

tak ještě k tomu mágovi neni to na wowko ale jen for fun ale chtěl bych něco jako chaotic (scoopy): něco z netu třeba tohle: http://highlatencylife.com/2009/12/page/3/ akorát male :D ale i tak díky za snahu

I have no clue what they are saying, are they saying I suck and want to kill me, or are they saying I am so awesome they want their hot women to marry me.

It boggles my mind sometimes this wonderful thing we call the internet, and then there are those greedy mongers who want to stiffle it. Here’s the thing is they are going back to 2009, if they can go back to find something so can the SOPA/PIPA people, but some good news on that front alot of politicians who were backing it, have removed their support…but I digress.

My Favorite Classes of MMO’s

Posted in MMORPG, Writing with tags , on December 6, 2011 by theerivs

Some of you know me as the Mage, or the Chosen, but there were other classes I enjoyed from other games…some you might be suprised to read, but here it goes.

5. Smite Cleric  from Dark Ages of Camelot – I loved the versatility of this toon, and it was my first ever in the forays of MMOdom. I guess you always remember your first. Then came the great Smite nerf, and it made my Smite Cleric obsolete. I went to a healing cleric, and after a couple of years got burnt out on healing.

4. Necromancer from Age of Conan - I played alot of Necros in my life, this came closest I felt than the Necromancer in AoC. You had an army of minions, not just one, plus a good assortment of spells to kill things with .

3. Chosen from Warhammer Online - It let me be pure evil, and I was. I relished in everything Chaos. I loved the Inevitable City. I loved the art of Warhammer Online. I loved the feel, and visceral combat. In the end the game just got to be the same ole..same ole.

2. Mage from World of Warcraft – No class really represented me more than a mage. Noble Man who wielded powers beyond mortals grasp. Able to teleport at whim, and self sufficient for alot of things. Basically allowed me to bring out my inner Ass. I loved this class, the look, the feel, the rivalries between Warlocks, and Mages….Shadow Priests don’t count really.

1. Sith Warrior from SWTOR – I’m just going to say so far so good. The NDA has lifted, but mine hasn’t. I won’t start talking in earnest about this game, until I start playing in earnest.

To Nano…or Not to Nano

Posted in Other Nerdy Pursuits, Writing on October 24, 2011 by theerivs

Every year I try my hand at writing a novel in a month, but every year life hits me pretty hard at that time. Like 2 years ago, my stepdad had a stroke, and last year I was trying to get myself well after corruption got into my leg. I drove out the unclean spirit through hard work and the darkest of arts.

This year I struggle with my day-to-day writing, and ideas are not flowing from me as they use to, which I’m sorry to say may show her in my work. I don’t know if I lack the motivation because of the dry spell in MMO’s which is the font for my inspiration is drying up, or in general my creativity as a writer is drying up…what little creativity I have left.

Oh sure I have some Novel Ideas rolling around in my head, but ideas are just that, to bring those ideas to life takes work, work I don’t know if I have the time for.

In general whether I join or not I think it’s a great idea, and a great time among writers, giving each other support. The website is awesome, and you get pep talk letters from authors that know their crap. If you ever thought about writing this is the time to do it.

As I think about this, and whether or not I want to jump in the fray again, I remember Yoda saying, “Do or Do Not Do, There is no try”

Fat, Drunk, and Stupid is no way to go through life.

After reading Scary’s article, He’s absolutely right. Many of us gamers lead a stationary life, and some of us need to change that.

I use to weigh close to 500 lbs, I was diagnosed with Adult Diabetes Type 2. I knew if I kept going down this path I would quickly be playing video games in hell. Which all they have in hell is a Vectrex game system.

I vowed to lose some weight. I changed my diet, and hit the gym regularly it worked, I am down to 375, but I can’t stop there. I have ALOT of work ahead of me, and his post made me recommit to my goal and lose 100 pounds before my 40th birthday. We are planning to go to Vegas, and I don’t want to have bigger breasts then some of the girls.  I admit I slacked off alot since my grandma died, but it’s time to get out of that funk, and into the gym.

Sometimes it takes a friend to kick you in the ass, but I think the words of Dean Wormer from Animal House ring the most true, “Fat, Drunk, and Stupid is no way to go through life. “
