So I putzed around the internet today a couple of things.

The Culling –

I went through my blogroll removed some older blogs, I know some old blogs are still on there, but they are there for a reason, sometimes it’s just to honor the person who has left us. Maybe I should make the Blogroll of the Fallen?

High Latency Lifetime Achievement Award

Larisa of Pink Pigtail Inn – Though we had our differences, she is one of the few bloggers I respect, and really do enjoy reading. She is leaving us, but her spirit will live on

Gazimoff of Mana Obscura - There is no other mage dedicated to the mage cause then Gaz, and I love his dedication to community.

Markco of Just My Two Copper - I wish I could change the license plate on my chopper to “ThxMarkco”, because of him I made alot of gold in WoW, and his selfless dedication to the gold making community of WoW not only earned my respect, but he is truly a nice guy.

Syp of BioBreak - There would be no River the video game blogger without Syp,  I loved Warhammer, and Syp made me realize, hey maybe I could blog about video games.  Alot of bloggers that are still blogging today because of Syp’s blogging iniatives.

Slurms of Multiplaying.net – He really is dedicated to the video game genre, and here at HLL owe him a debt of gratitude for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Scarybooster of Scarybooster.com - His raw comediac talent, and interesting writing style drew me too him, and over time we became friends. He’s a great guy, and I’m sure he’ll win this award some day.

Though to be honest, he’s been still posting…so maybe he ain’t going no where.

Book Review- MOGWORLD

I was looking for a book to break my usual Warhammer/Warhammer 40k reading obsession, and just read something else.  Since I view High Latency Life, not just a blog about video games, especially MMO’s, I feel this blog as a nexus for all things geeky, and nerdy. So I like to share other things in my geeky side of life. One of them is books.

When the Pugnacious Priest, told me about this book.  I was dubious to get it. What do Aussie girls know about games, and books. Hell they may know about trash canned sized beer like fosters, or have arcane knowledge about knifes like Crocodile Dundee, but books dealing with video games. I don’t think so.

Boy I couldn’t be more wrong.  This book is pretty damn good. The author Yahtzee Croshaw draws highly upon WoW influences, but there’s stereotypes that can be drawn from any fantasy based MMO’s. I am only half way through this book, and just love it.

It’s about this undead mage (ok already I’m in love with this character) named Jim, who just wants to die a real death. He’s joined on his adventurers, by an undead girl named Meryl, who happens to be sort of a nationalist/racist, and a undead priest who is a holy roller of sorts. 

I mean the humor in this book is great. A necromancer overlord who is a great manager. There’s a scene in the book where the necromancer is talking to Jim about the rat pit, and it’s as if they were just talking at the office about a project or something.

If your into MMO’s, can laugh at the stereotypes of this genre,  and know how to read, I strongly recommend this book.

You know what you can do?

Go fuck yourself.

All kidding aside, Shadow is a great blogger, and he’s cracking me up. So I like RIFT. Am I in love with it. No, but I like how it’s more like old WoW, than how WoW is now. I liked old WoW, hell I played it long enough. I also like how there’s just enough PvP in it, to keep my warmongering side satisfied.  

What’s wrong with playing something you enjoyed for years. Heck I wear the same underwear until it’s tatters on me. The comfortable, and the well known are things alot of people well feel comfortable in.

Not every game is going to fit every gamers playstyle, alot of people I know love LOTRO, I never did. I was bored by it. Oh don’t get me wrong I liked alot of what LOTRO was doing over there, I enjoyed hearing about the game, and how can you not love the Lore of the game. It’s just when I actually played it….well my head hit the keyboard when I passed out.

There are some games I loved playing for a long…long time, like WAR, and WoW, but I got burned out, or didn’t like the direction they were going,  So I left, do I hate the games…No.

Then there’s games like Minecraft…Fuck that piece of shit. Just kidding..or am I.

Bottomline not every game will appeal to everybody, but that’s the great thing…that’s how I learn about other games, cause if we all liked and played the same thing…we would all be playing Oregan Trail Online…..and  I think we can all agree on one thing…fuck dysentary.

Damn Jumping Monkeys

Your days are numbered. RIFT 1.1 Patch Notes are out…here’s some Mage Goodness.

This right here is awesome….

* PvP combat: Abilities now only check for caster facing their target at the start of a cast – they will still land if a target moves behind you while the casting is in progress.

Surviving longer never hurts…

* Increased the amount of Armor on Cloth items

Another Nice Boon…

* Mages: Reduced pushback on all non-healing Mage spells

Soul Changes…

WARLOCK
* Neddra’s Might: No longer requires a target to cast.
* Neddra’s Torture: Reduced cooldown to 20 seconds.

STORMCALLER
* Static Discharge: No longer on global cooldown.
* Static Flux: Will no longer be overwritten by weaker buffs.
* Cloudburst: Increased damage.
* Icy Vortex – New Ability: Reduces damage done to the Mage by 25% for 10 seconds and applies Hypothermia to attacking enemies, reducing their movement speed by 50% for 10 seconds. Obtained at 6 points.

PYROMANCER
* Due to the below changes, characters with points spent in Pyromancer have received a free soul point respec.
* Heat Wave: Reduced cooldown to 2 minutes.
* Inferno: Removed from global cooldown.
* Improved Grounding: Now a tier 2 branch ability.
* Improved Smoldering Power: Now a tier 3 branch ability.
* Ground of Power: Now obtained at 6 points.
* Smoldering Power: Now obtained at 8 points.
* Burning Shield – New Ability: Consumes the mage’s Ground spell to shield them in flames, absorbing damage. Lasts up to 30 seconds. While Burning Shield is active, the next Ground spell is instant-cast. Obtained at 6 points.

NECROMANCER
* Empty the Crypts: Charge can now be gained while this is active. The pets summoned by Empty the Crypts can be active for a maximum of 20 seconds.
* Lich Form: Will no longer consume buffs that reduce the casting time of your next spell.

ELEMENTALIST
* Intensify Elements: No longer on the global cooldown.

CHLOROMANCER
* Withering Vines: Increased the amount healed.
* Livegiving Veil: Now affects up to 5 targets.
* Radiant Spores: Now has a base chance to proc of 10%.
* Phytogenesis: Now increases the chance for Radiant Spores to proc by 2-6%.

DOMINATOR
* Priest’s Lament: The primary debuff on this ability is no longer affected by diminishing returns. The silence proc debuff is still affected.
* Haunting Pain: Will only trigger on the first tick of damage from a damage shield.

Overall some nice goodies for us mages to look forward too. I can wait to Cinder Blast those damn jumping monkeys..

Developers Appreciation Week

My Friend, Scarybooster, started Developers Appreciation Week, or DAW to combat the beatings we as players sometimes unleash on the people who make the games we love so much, it is something I fully stand behind.

There are so many developers out there that to list all the ones I love, and why would take 3 months. These two though to me really bring something to the table of which I love currently.

TRION –

Everyone is praising TRION for putting out a polished product, and really making a game that combines alot of good things that are in MMO’s of today.  I want to commend TRION for it’s commitment to us the player. We said we wanted more PvP, they put it in more Warfronts, and rewards for that PvP…We said we want more security they put in the Coin Lock System. Through the forums, and other methods, they seem to be listening to the players, and giving them what they want.

RELIC –

I want to give props to Relic to really bringing the Warhammer 40k universe to life, like few other games have in the past. I remember playing War 40k games that were just plan shitty. That all changed with Dawn of War. They even included an army painting utility which really is a big part of the Warhammer Universe. With Dawn of War 2 they brought more RPG into the mix, and made a stronger story line for it’s single player campaign.

To all the developers out there, thank you for doing what you do,  because if I didn’t have video games in my life, I might be climbing a tower with a high powered sniper rifle.

RIFT is nice….but…

Do not get me wrong, I like RIFT alot. It’s a good solid game…but I have my eye on Star Wars. Yes I am fully ensnared by the hype perhaps, and I don’t care.

I must admit, I do get hyped real easy. I got super hyped for Warhammer Online. In the end playing that game was  like having a total bitch for a girlfriend, but you put up with her cause she can suck a golf ball through a garden hose.  I mean I had great fun PvPing, but that’s all I did.

Reasons I’m getting hyped.

1. Playing as a Sith - Any game I get to play as a Lawful Evil bastard like me, I’m already giddy like a little school girl.

2. Story Telling – Putting some immersion into the MMORPG, I think will be a good thing. 

3. Bioware – Don’t know if you know this, but Bioware has a pretty good track record

4. Star Wars - Yeah it’s Light Saber Throwing, TaunTaun Riding, AT&AT Smashing Star Mother Fucking Wars…Nuff said.

What kind of MMO player are you?

So I was thinking the other day, and most MMO players I feel like they fall into basically 3 archetypes when they are playing MMO’s in terms of their real life persona versus their online persona.

For example the person I play online is alot like the person I am offline. Generally a nice person, with a little bit of a bad streak, and definitely indulge in some vices, and guilty pleasures, heck I wore “The Drunkard” Title with pride in Warhammer Online.

The three archetypes I believe are these.

The Opposite – Some plays an opposite of themselves, for example if they are really good in life, their MMO persona might be real bad. Perhaps they play the opposite gender role, or maybe they are a little bad in life and play a real good guy. Whatever the case these people use MMO’s to explore a part of their nature they don’t get to experience in real life.

The Hyper-Reality - They play as a super version of themselves, for example if they are good, they are real good, and conversely if they are bad, they are really bad. Not just an extension of themselves, but an exaggeration of themselves.

Themselves - They play as themselves for the most part, this is more of an extension of themselves into the virtual world.

So what type of player are you?

Weekly Lagout

Stoopid Booze…yeah your lagout is early…cause my Ping is really sucking today.

RIFT: My guild is planning a massive PvP event tonight, so I’m excited. Otherwise it’s grinding as usual. I’ve always been a pretty slow leveler.

SWTOR: I’m starting to feel the hype monster creeping up for this. I hope it’s a decent game. I was so disappointed with STO, and WAR.

High Latency Love –

My Liver that little mother fucker works HARD. I have much love for him.

The Big Bear Butt Blogger is in Chicago and loving it. I love my city, and it warms my heart when someone enjoys it to.  So I gotta give him some High Latency Love.
