The Lesson

I apologize for the long ass post, but you people need to know something. Here’s the whole story, of the why’s and wherefores.

For those that know me, know my motto. “Through Chaos comes Knowledge.”  I believe through Chaos, the time when our lives are low, when our problems are hitting us the hardest, we learn who we really are, what we can accomplish. We also learn who our friends are, and who our enemies are.  One thing I know is Chaos, and how to make it.

Cranky showed me much love, linking to me, twittering to me, etc. I also showed her that love back by linking to her also. So there was a loyalty, a commune of blogs there. We shared ideas, and we liked each others work. I knew of Anna, but I never read her stuff. RP was foreign to me.One day I’m happily putzing on my Pally on Argent Dawn, Tanking my ass off…cause well I’m a good tank. Then Cranky get’s on. I don’t know exactly what was going on. She was said her goodbye’s, and quit. I was like what the hell???

Turns out Anna made a post slamming Cranky, and SAN. A friend, a guildie, and my guild. No way, I come from an era where we use to say “Guild, Realm, Self”  As I read the post, I was like who the hell does this Anna think she is. She works for Blizzard now, does she make the rules. Then I read the comments the virtual lynching where even some SAN member were trying to cover their own arses. Cranky closed her doors to her blog.

Then the blog posts came up saying Anna was in the right, Cranky should have had a thick skin..etc..etc. There were a few who stood against the grain, and said hey something is wrong,  I commend them, but I felt something more needed to be done. Anna and her group smacked of Elitism, (Just read her post about Left-Outism, really?)

It’s not the fact that Anna doesn’t have the right to post what she wants on her blog, I will defend her right to do so. Here is the problem I have with this whole debacle, Anna thought she was beyond the consequences of her words. I hope she learned she is not.  For she started chopping up her post left and right. I wanted more, I wanted Anna to know in this world her words have consequences. That in the future she better have better tact, cause the next guy might be psycho enough to carry out what I was faking to do.  My goals were never to utterly destroy RP, or even harm Anna at all. What I wanted to do was put a mirror up to Anna and show the rest of the world, and herself what she was. A Bully, and someone who thought a little too highly of themselves.  It’s true you need to have a thick skin to blog, and I wanted to test her’s out.

Ok let’s go through what I did, and the why’s….

My first post is kind of like the road map, if you read it correctly. I sever my ties, I goto her server, I find her..etc.

Ok I sever my ties, Why did I do that?

Well BoO was becoming a little more hardcore raiding then I liked,  so I was hanging on a tether there. I really didn’t feel welcome there anymore. Alot of RP’ers in that guild as well, and I didn’t want them catching flak from my stupidity. Some of them love RP so much though, I knew where  their allegiance lied. I would log on, do my baron’s mount run, talk a bit, and leave. I felt like I wasn’t contributing, to me that’s very important. So I just felt like the time was right to say goodbye.

As for SAN, I never really formed and allegiance with them, or clicked. How can I when they would turn their back on one of their own and toss them to the wolves. Sure there were some people I liked in the guild, said to say Cranky was one of them. So severing my ties with them wasn’t that big of an issue to me.

I move to her server….

Well to be honest I had a few toons on Feathermoon at one time, and still had an Alt sitting there with 300 gold. I am a server gypsy, and too me paying 25 bucks is just one less round of drinks. I have alts set up on a lot of servers I been on with a little cache of gold. In the days when WoW would give you a free day if your server was down, I went on an alt creating spree, then when you could transfer servers on a whim, and they stopped that practice I consolidated to basically some bank alts spread over the WoWiverse. To me while leveling one server is good as another, and the 25.00 dollars to be a thorn in Anna’s side, well priceless.

To Find Her -

I thought if I came face to face to me, she would take notice, and fight, scream, yell at me, anything really.  Fight to protect that she loves her server, her guild, her RP. Maybe they thought if they ignored me I would either go away, or would make a mistake they can jump on and get me banned, or at least a warning. She didn’t even come after me, she sent her little goons. A little cowardly I would say. If she just opened actual dialogue with me instead of being ignorant, things would of worked out better.

What I learned, and hopefully you learned as well along this crazy ride.

1. Though we are people of words us bloggers, our actions speak more … volumes more. I said I was Cranky’s friend, I said what I was going to do.   Anna she doesn’t have a thick skin, she edits and deletes comments, as for me you can call me every name in the book cause you know what, in the end it just doesn’t matter.

2. Every action has a consequence, whether it is good or bad that’s for others to decide. You put someone on blast, be prepared to get blasted back.

3. These people hide behind masks of their characters, when the masks slips their world falls apart. They get mean sometimes about it.

4. Roleplaying is strange to me, if someone actually took the time and explained the appeal maybe I would understand, though at this point it would be a hard sell.

5. I dared them to show me their way, to show me why RP was worth fighting for, they refused and just decided to attack me back. So much for the high road.

6. I come from a world of PvPers, maybe PvP’ers and RPers are different breeds, I don’t know.

7. This is a game, one day it will be gone. They are just pixels, and in life there is alot more important things than pixels.

8. Vincent Price is a cool motherfucker. I just wanted to put that in there. Go see Witchfinder General, awesome movie.

9. That never take something as face value. I was over the top for a reason, people who know me, know what I’m about and they saw it for what it’s worth.

10.  I learned who are my real friends, and people who like me in this great internet, You show love to me, I’m gonna show it right back. If you go to war for me, I’ll go to war for you. Thank you for ‘getting’ me, and being there for me.

11. Don’t fuck with me……Just Kidding……No I’m not.

My thought process….

Anna and these roleplayers were a little out of line, well they like to roleplay. I’ll roleplay a big dickhead. I’ll play the part of the villain. Either they will stand up to me or not.

My goals of all this.

1. To make people think about the ideas of RP, and how Elitism can creep into anywhere , I think I achieved that.

2. To ruffle the feathers of some people, so the next time they feel the need to call someone out, they think about it a tad. I think I achieved that as well.

3. To show Cranky, and the community we must be loyal to one another, and not be afraid to stick our necks out for our friends, I think I achieved that as well.

Apologies -

I would like to apologize to Anna, Wildfire Rider, Stormwind University. especially Shad. I am the bigger guy here.  I wish you guys the best of luck, and I just want you people to think about what you say and do, and the reasons you do a little more. Think before you act. Shad, I apologize for reporting you, I acted out of anger with that one, but no worries knowing blizz shit isn’t going to happen….unless you really are a spammer.  Though a warning, ever see you guys bully or acting like douchebags again, remember I can out douchebag you all, and I will come back to haunt you.

Outtakes – Some funny stuff along this journey.

1. You people really thought I ticketed 54 people? Really? Do ya KNOW how long it takes to do those things.

2. I got drunk and puked on the bunch of them…funny how art imitates life sometime. I didn’t know you could do that though. Drunk dungeon running here we go.

3. Actually alot of people did want to join my guild, it’s funny. Though I think the people who know me best know I couldn’t lead crap out of a paperbag, let alone run a guild. I’m shocked none of my friends piped in on that one.

4. Me and this toon from “Tricky Witch” guild chased each other around Stormwind a bit it was kinda funny.

Finally I think I can claim this war a success, I ruffled a few feathers, I brought people out of their little safe zone, and made some people think a bit…..if you don’t think I was a success, you be the judge.

So the War is over, thus concludes the Lesson.

  1. Not to sound mean or anything, man, but I’m pretty sure your righteous crusade had pretty much zero lingering effect on the ones you were trying to fight.

I guess it’s okay that you proved a point to yourself, but that’s about the only thing that got done here. Nobody else cared, and I have it on good authority that, in this grand conflict, the battle existed exclusively on your side, and on the other side it was a couple of rolled eyes followed primarily by lulz.

    • It’s funny, like with Sports forums – people go in and write stuff about teams they “hate”. You know what? They’re always good teams. No one posts crap on the NJIT basketball board because no one cares. They sure to spam up the UK boards, though.

In this case, Rivs’ posts collected 50 or more comments on many of them – newsflash – people cared. You just posted here to tell him how much people didn’t care – you cared enough to come post about it.

Take from that whatever you’d like.

Ultimately, it just shows the kind of guy Rivs is. I don’t know him from any other blogger, but I can guess if I was a RL friend, I know he’d be there on moving day to help a brother out.

Actually I tell my friends, I’m not the guy to call when you need to move a couch. I’m the friend you call when you need to move a body. LOL!

      • Correction, then: If you define “cared” as having kept an eye on things, then many people may certainly have.

However, it’s unlikely at best that this had any sort of impact on the way any of the intended “targets” will conduct themselves in the future.

  2. *applauds*

Long-time lurker, but first-time poster. I’ve read your exploits with interest, and confess I was starting to think that you were going a bit over the top in the last few posts, but then this post brings it all home. Although I’m not sure I agree with your methods, I do agree with your message, and just wanted to say kudos for sticking your guns and staying true to yourself throughout this. I think that’s something to be admired.

  3. I learned a big lesson out of all this too.

    1. Everybody thinks they are right. You can’t change anybody’s mind because of selfish pride. Sad this is how the human race will end. Selfishness sucks!

    *HIGH-FIVE*

    *cracks a beer*

  5. Nice post.

my lesson would be keep Roleplaying out of WoW.

  6. I enjoyed every minute of it. I still don’t get RP, never will…whatever. The point of any/all of us complaining was simply to let certain people know that what they did sucked. Riv took it to the next level and it was hilarious. Well done sir…I commend your dedication!

  7. Hi, Rivs.

For what it’s worth, I apologize for my rapid typing and addiction to the enter key, a habit I picked up from too much thought breakage in chat programs.

What I was going to say before I was ignored was that if you ever need a healer, you’re welcome to send me a tell.

And no, since this was only my second report in five years (the first being from a terribly interesting gentleman who was convinced I was haxing because he was unable to mine the iron node I was actively looting), I was indeed not served, but I appreciate your concern.

  8. You know what I would have liked to see? Rivs engaged to Anna. I would paid to watch that marrige on Pay-per-view. It would be an awesome union that would surpass John and Kate 8

  9. People are far less interesting than they sound. Color me surprised.

And Anna banning you from her blog was coming for several miles ahead. Just as predictable as her cronie team supporting her.

Funny thing is that Matojo, one of the stalwart defenders of why Cranky should have suck it up, is a members of several sites EXCLUSIVELY for smearing bar RP’ers:

    http://trollbouquet.ca/?p=453

So laughing in the back is OK, but actually doing something about it is wrong. Uh huh.

Didn’t see this whole effort during more than a week. People are too stubborn in the Internet and is no fun when the other side don’t indulge in Rage.

Thing that I hope that everybody learned:

You cannot be a douchebag and then backpedal on the Internet, Google C

    • Remember! Anna didn’t ban him. He’s just going to have to learn how to communicate without vowels if he wants to say something. It sort of pleasantly illustrates the comedy factor here.

      • theerivs Says:

L33t Sp3^K f0r th3 W!N, but she did ban me in the last post. I lost the privledge to post on her blog she said.

      • theerivs Says:

I stand corrected, no she just disemvoweled me. My bad. They just got in my way. LOL!

    • This makes me grin.

Yeah, I snark, but I don’t harass people in-game over their bad RP. Also, teehee at assuming I’ve never tried to help people improve. That’s precious. ;)

Without the snark, I’d be a basketcase, lemme tell ya.

  10. *Google cache WILL bust your ass.

    Damn, got cut.

  11. Legolas4Life! Says:

So, wait, you aren’t creating a guild then? You lied to me! I fucking hate you Riv. I hate you with every fiber of my being. Mark my words dickhole because you haven’t heard the last of me!

I’m going to start my own guild and I’m going to follow you around like a fucking eagle with tiger claws and shit. Then when you fuck up, I’m going to report your ass faced self!

    • theerivs Says:

Havent you been stalking me for the last 4 years. So what’s this going to change? It aggravated me back in the day on your little pally, you following me around, and casting spells at me. Creeped me out a bit.

As for the guild it’s still there you can join, but naked, drunk deadmine runs on raid nights.

  12. You don’t get RP? Seriously?

If your post is to be believed in full then you’ve been engaging in RP since you started your War. Backstory, character motivation, your character’s personality etc. The Witchfinder gruild post for character depth.

Did you enjoy it? If so then you enjoy RP *grin*

I don’t WoW RP personally. But RP is just creating a character and telling their story – what drives them, what they want to achieve, how they interact with the rest of the world around them, what they think of that world and how they develop over time or come to their end. The only time it isn’t RP is if you weren’t acting.

    • I know, I wanted to out RP the RP’ers. Your getting kinda what I was doing.

Sad thing is, when I actually SAW what they were doing..I was like…well I don’t want to slam them anymore then I already have.

  13. This has been entertaining. Thanks.

Sadly, I don’t think Anna actually got The Point™ at all.
