The Good Old Days

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on January 21, 2010 by theerivs

First off let me give some credit, I hear through the blogosphere of all the asshats that we find on LFG. What about those that do there job. Last night I was in a pug so fantastic, I never wanted them to go. If I screw up with spelling, and I forgot one person, cause I’m doing this off the top of my head. It was Iconiq, and his friend Pally on Manneroth, Poppilee a Hunter from Medivh, and Negal a Tree Druid from Durotan.  We went into UK, and got the job done fast, real fast and professional. First boss the Prince dude, we downed in 24 seconds.  I just like giving credit where credit is due.

Ok lets get to the meat of my discussion. The WoW of 5 years ago, is not the WoW it is today. Inspired by this post by Mach.  Tanking isn’t the same, but then I thought. Nothing is the same as it was.  This MMO has evolved so much, it’s almost not the same game. I think Blizzard has watered down this game so much, it’s starting to get to the point where I feel it’s like a Free 2 Play game.

Maybe I’m just getting old, and having played this game for so long I am resisstant to change, but I’m not sure making thing easier is the best course of action. The reason I play WoW so much is I am invested into this toon. This little guy of mine, I spent time on him, trying to make him better. I spent hours upon hours of farming, and raiding trying to get the gear I need to make myself better. Know how many times I’ve been to MC, and BWL back in the day. On my tank do you know how many crotches I had to look at, more then a cheap hooker giving BJ’s  that’s for sure.

I don’t want to get all nostalgic, but I do want to point out that this game is evolving into something different, I haven’t quite made up my mind if I like or dislike the changes as of yet, but it IS changing.  Where we end up, I don’t know. I do look forward though to see where things go.  I was starting to lose hope with Trials of the Champion, but then ICC hit, and my faith restored somewhat, then I saw Neutral Defias Thugs in Northshire, and my faith knocked dow a peg.

Bottomline I just worry WoW will be flooded with Morons that don’t know how to play becuase things were too easy.

In other Magely news Euripedes has posted a great post on fire mage pvp, I urge you to check it out if you do or ever wanted to do some fire pvp.

So I’m into PvPing alot these days, since I no longer have the time to raid anymore. So as I was killing orcs, and undead alot. It had me a little homesick for my beloved Horde.

This is not a slam against the Brotherhood of Oblivion, all great people. I have alot of fun with them, but when your PvEing it doesn’t really matter who’s standing next to you. It’s you against the mob. Faction Pride doesn’t play a factor.

Ah but when PvPing, and you see the asshats in general chat, you just want to pay the fee to transfer right then and there. Oh sure each faction has it’s share of douchebags, but the feeling on the Horde side is different. There is something for lack of a better term, Noble, picking the Horde side. In the beginning, Horde was the underdog, we built community. If I was in STV, orTarren Mill, and I called the Horde for help they would come 9 times out of 10.  If I call Alliance for help probably for help two times out ot ten, more likely they would laugh at me, and call me Noob.

I logged onto Garona, what I consider my home server, cause it was my first, and most played on server. I chatted with some old guildies. I miss them. Do I regret leaving them. No. I made some wonderful new friends, had and will continue to have some great times. Will I ever head back, I don’t know.

I can say for sure, the Horde, and Alliance have a different mindset, and different way of achieving things, no one way is better, just different.  For right now though, I see a Cow coming at me and I say to myself, “Gee I know a Tauren that looks just like this one” then I BBQ the mofo.

Star Trek Online : Second Impression

Well I delved deeper into STO – Here are some of my thoughts.

- The quests some of them could use a little more info. Like there was a quest to find someone…how bout telling me WHERE?

- The starting missions were umm kinda rough. I had to face like 18 ships in a row. Um I’m by myself. Need help here, I would dumb it down a tosh, or maybe detect how many ships are in the zone.

-I am seeing everyone on my minimap that is in the zone, I hope theres a way to configure that so I only need to see what I want to see.

-Leveling to 6 is gonna be rough. I want my Klingons now.

Next report is going to be on Klingons, if I could only log on to play and actually get to that level.

Remember though, it’s only a beta.

Maybe I take my games too seriously?

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , on January 19, 2010 by theerivs

Like the Joker said, “Why so serious?”

Sometimes I wonder if I take my games too serious. If they are “Just a Game” Last night I was pugging Pit of Saron, and I was with a fellow guildie (Megaburger), he is a real good player, and one of the few people I respect alot in the guild. This group was messing up big time. As you know, or may not. Real life has dealt me some issues, and it’s hard to carve out more then an hour or two of gaming time out in a night. I had to leave the PUG before we finished the final boss, though it was our third wipe. I felt real bad abadoning my guildie. How upset? So upset another person noticed I was upset, and they told me, “It is just a game.”….That’s when I almost went into seizures.

Maybe it is just a game, maybe I’m a tosh addicted, and maybe I do take it a little more serious then I should. At least I’m not snorting coke off a hooker’s ass….well at least not during the week.

In other news it would be nice to play a little more STO. I worked on my baby Lock. I should work on my Pally Tank, but Pally Tanking is so foreign to me, after being a warrior tank for so long, I might just level up a warrior again. I dunno. It be nice though to be either a Tank or the Healer.

I have never really healed in WoW, I might have to try it some time.

Defias Thugs more like Defias Knitting Circle!

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on January 18, 2010 by theerivs

So this weekend PvPing was like getting prison gang raped without the sensitivity or gentleness of normal gang rapes. It was bad. The only highlight was when me, a lowly mage, got a flag capture in Warsong Gulch.

So after crying in the corner over my lost manhood, I decided to pay a visit to Dendren, and Keredria, and Jess. I made a Warlock, named Rivon. Yeah I bring the hotness.

I noticed some major things have changed. I got a staff, I thought Warlocks got a dagger in the past.  What the hell the wolves are now diseased, and I need to get pelts instead of some yummy meat. Did Vegan’s attack Northshire?

What the hell I don’t have to steal the book anymore to Summon Imp….and where the Demon Trainer, now he’s just some douchebag standing around doing nothing. But I loved the challenge of trying to steal that damn book.  What the hell Corruption is instant now…when did that happen? I remember I had to burn 5 talent points to make Corruption instant.

Ok Ok, calm down Riv…lets just go get some Grapes.  Oh come on, their called Harvest now, what was wrong with grapes….and wait a minute. All the Defias Thugs are Neutral now. You have to be kidding me. These hardened criminals are now all pussies.

Listen I could reach level 5-6 in 10 minutes, why did they have to make it easier, that sixth minute was rough?  Is all of WoW going through a Dumbing down phase?  I don’t know, but I was disgusted.

Easy does not mean better in my book.

My Impressions of Star Trek Online

Posted in MMORPG with tags on January 18, 2010 by theerivs

Basically this sums it up….

“Server is currently busy, please try again.”

I know it’s beta, and thats why were here to iron out any bugs, while we can. Well I was able to log on in the wee hours of the morning.  It reminded me ALOT like Pirates of the Burning Sea.  On Ground combat was just ok, while the Space Combat was cool, and almost top notch. The thing I hated about PoTBS isn’t here, the economy/crafting system. Will there be crafting in STO? I don’t know yet. Also where the hell are my Klingons!!!

Also I had a Ship that looked like the U.S.S. Reliant.  I kept saying to myself…”This is Ceti Alpha Five!”, and a whole bunch of other Khan references.

I look forward to digging deeper into this game, and blasting some scum out of the universe.

“Raid love, Nagas!”

Weekly Lagout

Posted in MMORPG with tags on January 15, 2010 by theerivs

Real Life hitting me hard, but I still find time for my love, my passion, my addiction, my hobby.

WoW -

I’m going to try to PvP more, since I don’t have the time to carve out for Raiding. I am really loving the Arcane Shatter spec, and look forward to a post on Blizzard posts on how much Azgalor-Horde hate Frostscourge.

I looked at the new Armory, I didn’t really like it, way to much going on I think.

I think I said this last week, I’m done. But I missed it this week. Nothing like sewing the seeds of Chaos to lighten your mood.

Star Trek Online -

Yeah I got into Open Beta, but I haven’t really played around with it too much. I delve into this further this week.

High Latency Link Love -

Two new bloggers joined the guild that blogs. The Brotherhood of Bloggers Oblivion

A Hunter that seems to know his stuff, at Functionally Huntarded

And another Bubble Priest.

I hope they have as much fun with BoO as I do.

Something Funny -

I don’t care, I like Justin Timberlake. His music is catchy, and he’s a funny dude.

I love this skit. He makes a cameo in this one, it’s pure funny win too.

On that note-

How I love PvP- Thanks to Arcane Shatter Spec

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on January 15, 2010 by theerivs

I said this once, and I can’t scream it’s praises enough, and there’s only one man to thank for this. Euripedes he introduced me to the Arcane Shatter Spec basically 51/0/20. Important thing of course is Shatter/Slow/Arcane Barrage.  The glyphs I went with was Arcane Barrage, Icey Veins, and Evocation.  I feel those 3 would see the most mileage. I run with Mage Armor too, resists, and mana regen…

I did mostly Alterac Valley, and Arathi Basin (It was the daily). I had some great fun, Slowing people, Arcane Barrage/Ice Lance. Then if they do get close to me…Frost Nova…POM….FFB…..SMACK DOWN MOFO! Sure it’s no Trinket-POM-AP-Pyro fun, but it’s a pretty cool spec.

I know…I know…what about the awesome survivalbilty of Frost spec. The key here is you got to stick and move. I don’t think I stopped once last night, just kept moving. Can’t hit what you can’t catch. It really had the feel of like a Quake match, fast and furious action.

I know some horde were getting ticked off, in one Arathi Basin one shaman had a personal vendetta against me, gee you think by the eight time you killed him, he would get the hint.

The only thing is I have a point to slip around, if I’m pvping is Focus Magic that big a deal. If I cast it on someone and we get seperated do i still get the buff, or if I die quickly. The reason I thought about it is someone asked me to hit them up with Focus Magic, and I was like I don’t have it, and they were like you should really get it.

I’ll have to think about it, do I want to really spend another 50 gold?

The Darkside of WoW

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on January 14, 2010 by theerivs

If Goldfarmers looked like Zhang Ziyi, I would buy them all out.

Aion was overrun by bots, and I thought back to my old days of PvP where there were at least 2-3 jump bots in AV. sitting there jumping every 3 seconds in the cave. The reason I ask, I was on my bank alt. Yea it’s a naked female. Cause I don’t like clothed girls handling my money, they might sneak some in there purse. :) Anywho a chinese person started spewing Chinese at me. Ok I took a semester of Chinese in college, so I knew how to say Hi, and your butt looks very nice today, or how are you. I get the two confused.  So it got me thinking.  Is there still a bot problem in WoW? Any run in’s with botters?

In my hey day they use to be everywhere, goldfarmers, bots, and people who would try to hack your account.  I hate people that hack accounts to me they are the utmost scum that should rot on the 3rd layer of hell, but to be truthfully honest, I don’t mind the goldfarmers, and the bots. Actually I like them, they keep the prices down on the AH. To me goldfarmer, and bots do the same thing I would do ifI needed gold…farm it.  Some Goldfarmers provide a service, which I don’t mind either. If you want to buy gold, go right ahead.

I guess the problem lies int he fact, that these goldfarmers, and bots support the account hackers. Is there enough of a hacking problem to make Blizzard demand you get an Authenticator. If Blizzard forced you would you get an Authenticator?  Tell you the truth I don’t know that I would continue to use WoW if the forced me to do anything, I don’t like authority figures.
