General MMO: I’m a Blood Elf Stripper…

miriam-wowOk I really want to talk about Gender in MMO’s but thought that title would catch your eye. I have a question for you gentlemen out there, would you give this girl 10 gold?

When I’m gaming in a virtual world, I think most of us guys, or at least more mature guys (read as old) I believe just assume a female toon is another guy. So if you have a female toon, or a blog I just assume he. I was corrected by Shy tell me that he is indeed a she, and her comment from my previous post got me thinking about gender in MMO’s.

Gaming is male dominated, we make, and play most of the games, but as Dylan said “The times they are changing”. Some guys say, “Girls aren’t as good as men when it comes to gaming”, I say, “Nay Nay good sir.” Every day more and more females are making in roads into gaming. Heck the best raiding mages I have seen are females, and not G.I.R.L.’s or Guys In Real Life. Their not healers, they aren’t female cow druids. These are pew, pew, blow stuff up mages.  In terms of FPS’s Hawty Mcblotty could blow me away anyday….excuse me while I grin at that last statement for a sec.

Being a female gamer, I am always curious if they get picked on more, or if they are left out by it. Do they have a tougher time the males gaming. I’m sure they get gold, and gifts showered upon them by the immature guys who love to degrade, and curious about a real life girl. If your female gamer I would love to hear the stories, bad and good of what’s it like to be a female in a male dominated virtual world. I would imagine like it would be in Australia. I heard there’s more guys there then women.

Sure most of the females I know rolled a healer to help their boyfriend, or hubby play the toon they wanted to play, but like the crack addict who took a hit because their significant other was doing it and got hooked, I think this is how many girls got hooked on MMO’s at least it has been from my observation. I wonder if there are any guys out there who never played an MMO, but because their wife or girlfriend played they started playing. I would find that interesting role reversal for sure.

 I guess the point I’m trying to make is the older I get, the more I see girls taking a more active role in gaming, and wouldn’t be surprised if they won’t be in the command chair at some gaming companies.

I for one welcome our new Overlords. 

Oh and for you guys, what did you answer. If you answered ”Yes” to giving that girl 10 gold, you been had. She’s actually a He.  Welcome to MMO world.

WoW: Copper Wars

So on the new server where I started from scratch my pally is now level 23, I have all netherweave bags, and 100g+ on me, and not all my auctions are in yet.  WoW is definately more easier then when I first started playing. I was knocking down elites the same level as me like they were butter. Well it helped alot a nice level 80 deathknight ran me through SFK got some nice uber weapons. a 2h Axe, and a one handed blue sword. The DK had some interesting gear choices, like a robe on. I was like, “Nice Gear, I thought you were a warlock, and said to myself since when can Warlocks carry huge Axes, I miss a patch or something”  He laughed and said, “I’m doing an SFK run for the achievement, wanna tag along?”  I replied, “Does a gnome love sniffing crotch? Hell yeah.”

So that helped immensely. One thing that helped on this server that the economy is completly upside down. They had stacks of copper ore for 15g, and stacks of titanium ore for 100g. On my main server stacks of titanium ore are near 300g.  So I started farming copper like no tomorrow. I loaded the AH, made quite a bit of gold. Then I noticed more copper on the AH, undercutting me. To the point where Copper ore stacks are now 5g. Here’s the funny part I was like who the heck is flooding the copper market. I look at the people selling copper it’s all my guildies. In guild I told them they were bunch of chinese farmers, one persons response. “Ni hao”

Who I’m playing with are expert WoW players who all been playing for some time. I really hope we dominate on this little server, I want to be the most hated guild there. I want Alliance to fear us, and Horde to Envy us.

Weekly Lagout

Well another week in MMO land comes to an end.

WAR -

 We’re not playing so much at this time, but I’ll be biting on the bit to crush some Order scum as soon as my social calender clears itself.

WoW -

We started from scratch on another server. A Pally, it’s really different playstyle from a Mage, or even a Warrior. The other toon I played for ages and tanked everything from Molten Core, to the Loot Reaver, er I mean Void Reaver.  I putting points into Ret right now, but I’m wondering should I level as Prot, I heard good things about it. We’ll see. 

On the Mage front, just in a kind of holding pattern. If I get a proto-drake from somewhere else, I’m killing every single gosh darn Oracle like I was the black plague of Oracles.

Some love -

I want to give some love to Gevlon’s new apprentice, she’s going to need some love check her out at Dalaran Gardens.

In the Future-

I want to start taking a stronger look at Star Wars: The Old Republic, as well as touch base with upcoming patching. My thoughts on MMO’s in general.

General Gaming:Mechwarrior is BACK!

One game I loved was the Mechwarrior games, so much so I was in a clan for Mechwarrior 3.  I visited the Mechwarrior Pods in downtown Chicago quite often. I LOVE big robot battles, and I really like the lore of the Battletech Universe.

So imagine my excitment when I read on Multiplaying that Mechwarrior is coming back.

Lets just say it’s like a stiff breeze just blew across my crotch!

WoW: A Bold Experiment

Well summertime blues are upon us, and with my own gaming activities a little hampered.  I don’t have much time to sit down and dedicate a 3-4 hour block to raid lately, and I am just sitting there collecting gold on my main server. I started a baby pally, and I like the class alot. I thought though where is the challenge. I have 500 gold, and so many bags it isn’t funny. Also I don’t see the point of doing anything until 3.2 except grinding a little rep because no matter what I get, the stuff i can buy with the badges will beat the stuff out now.

So I was talking to some old buddies. We decided to just pick a random server no one was on, and start from absolute scratch. Nothing zilch. Sure it’s alot easier because I know alot more now, but it’s challenging. I got excited making my first gold. I’m looking furiously for copper like it’s mothers milk.  Getting a bag was like I won a purple item, a guildie gave me a green level 5 sword, it might of well been a blue.  Will I stick with my new scratch pally, I don’t know. For now though it’s a little fun thing to do while I’m waiting for patch 3.2

WAR: Work Stoppage

No I’m not cancelling, no I’m not stopping to blog about it. I just haven’t had too much reason to log in. LoTD isn’t epic fail, but it is more of the same. If there is a guild event, or they need a tank for Bile/Blood. I’ll log in. 

 Right now my social schedule is pretty full, and with my vacation coming up I probably won’t have any time to do anything. Though thats one of the things I like about WAR. I log in do a couple scenarios get a little renown, call it a night.

I’m almost positive, that I’ll resume normal gaming activity after my vacation in a couple weeks, my liver will need a rest.

General MMO : Titles-The Drunkard, The Trendy, and Of the Undercity.

Titles are a really likable feature from the Noobish Jenkins, to the Awesome Heritors of War.

I earned that title in WAR. It’s one of my proudest titles ever earned in any game anywhere.  I’m going to be perfectly honest with you people I drink….alot.  Not where I’m drinking everyday, no I drink on weekends, and bars…though I do drink alot, and sort of binge. I never really touch the stuff at home.

Another title I like is from WAR is the Trendy, you get it after dyeing your items so many times, I think around 250 or so. Not many people are that nuts over dyeing items as much as me maybe. I dye my stuff now once or twice a week, always going back to purple.

For WoW there’s not many titles I enjoy, the one I really like though I am trying to get is “Of The Undercity” , has a cool ring to it. So I gotta turn in my runecloth to get exalted with Undercity.

The point I’m trying to make I really like titles, and it is a cool feature in MMO’s today. I hope the next gen has some real cool ones. *glares in the direction of Star Wars : The Old Republic*

The real cool thing about some of these titles is that they describe me, and kind of lets me take ownership of my character.  Any titles out there you like alot? Perhaps there’s a title you would like to see?

WoW: Mage Douchebaggery

Shy at WoW expands on my list, she has a couple good traits he added that I missed. Good Job.

When I was new to Dark Ages a lone begger stood on the bridge nothing on, and he asked me for a few coins. I told him I did not have much but I gave him a few silver. He gave me back 10 gold saying that it was a test, and that I passed with my generosity, and politeness. I was like woah.  

First off I’m a mage. For the most part I am a nice guy, but sometimes I get in a sour mood while trying to do something and someone level 7 says to me, “Canz Iz haves Port to Dalaran….puhleeze?”

Now I told you before I asked for gold, usually I charge outrageous prices like 10 gold. Sometimes they pay it, and I’m shocked. Sometimes they insult me, or ridicule me for charging such an heinous price.

Well the other day I had a rough day at work, I come home, I log on, and first thing i see on my screen as I am loading into Orgrimmar. “Needz port to Dalaran!”  I go, “Sure Buddy, No Problem. I’ll stop what I’m doing and port you for free.”  So I group with him, I open a portal. He steps through. I get so many cuss words it’s hilarious, I ported him to Stonard.  He wasn’t too happy bout that. I tell him, next time say “please or offer a tip. I’ll come to get you 15 gold”, more cuss words, and I go, “Ok, bye now, enjoy the walk.” …\ignore

Yes it was a real jerk move, I’ve been offering ports for longer then I can remember. You know what though if someone ever said to me, “Hi there I’m new to this server, I don’t have much gold but ill give you a few silver for the rune, mind if I get a portal please? ” I think I would die from heart attack, right after I give that person a free port, and 15g to help his cause.

My daddy always said you get more bees with honey. So if your polite, respectful, and can type a real sentence. You never know what you might accomplish. At the very least I promise you your walk will be much less then Stonard.

General MMO:Traits of a Good MMO player

Alot of things going on in the blogosphere as to what makes a good player, whether people want to read win or failstories. I think it’s alot of drama to say the least. But drama sells books, and drives readership to blogs. So it’s a good thing.

These people are all fine bloggers, and they each bring something to the table. Though I think there is a blogosphere ware ready to erupt. I want to toss my two cents in.

I don’t think it’s skill really that makes a good raider, but not only that a good MMO player in general. I think it takes traits.   MMO’s are a genre, if I was good at pushing a trigger this blog would probably be about Call of Duty or something.  Though you may have one or more of these traits I think you can agree that all the good MMO players have this.  So you might have more of one trait then the other, thus making you better then the other.  Lets get to the list.  Oh and by all means this is not comprehensive, I might miss some traits feel free to add your own.

1. Patience -Whether its grinding the AH, or grinding mats for your potions. I think you need to have patience to play an MMO.

2. Tenacity -It’s take tenacity to be an MMO player, by the 50th time trying to down a boss, or it’s your 300th time running Bilerot Burrows, or Heroic Violent Hold for that elusive piece of equipment.

3. A sense of humor -Whether its dry, witty, or your a smartass you need some sort of sense of humor about this whole thing.

4. A keen sense to follow direction -Alot of boss fights take some sort of strategy, and you need to know when to get out of the fire.  I don’t think you have to be sociable, but you need to know where to stand.

5. Ability to take ownership -What I mean by this is that your looking at your toon, and always trying to make it better, whether is grinding rep, or putting that enchant on. You own your toon, and your keep trying to improve that toon.

6. Look to those who came before you - I always see the good players always looking at people doing the best, and try to follow in their footsteps. Someone on top tier of  the arena the good players are analyzing everything that player is doing, to try to emulate them.

7.  Never be afraid to step out of the box-Sure cookie cutter specs, and gear choice aside you sometimes have to take a chance to try new things. I am always changing my spec, trying new variants of those cookie cutters spec. If I notice it isn’t working or doing the best DPS, I change back to a spec I know does.

8. Adaptability -When a strat goes horrible wrong, or something goes as planned you got to learn to overcome that obstacle.

9. Know your role -You dps, do dps. If your a healer, spec healing. Know what your job is, and do it.

10. You must like Pie- Ok I added this in there, cause dang it I do really like Pie.
